#!CB 9.04 - How long will the repositories be available

I am going to install #!9.04 to my daughter's nettop as she needs a stable version. 9.04 works really well on our hardware.
I would like to know how long the 9.04 repositories will be available, given that Jaunty will be supported until October 2010. Is there an official date for closure of the packages or am I right in thinking that packages will remain available for quite some time?

if you can get CB10 installed, you can switch its sources to 'stable' and you'll have a verrry stable system, much more then 9.04 imo.

I've been running Crunchbang Statler for a little while now and I've not had any problems with it. You might want to give it shot, at least for a while. Boot it off the Lice CD for a few days and really give it a test. Thats what I did before I installed it.:)

@blackbinary - Switching the sources from squeeze to stable/lenny would require apt-pinning and a lot of downgrading. IMO its far easier doing a fresh installation of Debian stable.

As others have mentioned the Statler Alpha is very stable already and will only continue to be more so as Squeeze draws closer to becoming the stable release.

I update and upgrade once a week minimum, and have had no problems now. The one thing that always gets me nail-biting is the Xorg upgrades, but touch wood even they have been cool.

When Squeeze goes stable, this is going to be one awesome distro! (Well, it already is, but you know what i mean).

Re: #!CB 9.04 - How long will the repositories be available

My daughter's ex-laptop was a (pink!) Dell inspiron with the infamous Broadband BCM4312 network controller.  It was quirky in many other respects too (or words to that effect). I think that I had to reinstall Mint about three times due to various problems. At one point she couldn't minimize windows at all as they would just disappear and couldn't be recovered. There were a number of posts referring to this bug on the Ubuntu forum.

After the initial shock of an iconless desktop and keybindings, she is now quite happy using my samsung nc10 with #!cb 9.04. I fear that it may not be returned to its rightful owner without a struggle. She's is replacing the Dell with an Acer Veriton n260g nettop at the end of the month. I have been using one for ten months and it is a snappy and linux-friendly machine.

I don't really want to reinstall cb10 again for my daughter in two or three months time which is why I thought I would stick with 9.04 for the moment. She just wants a stable, fully functioning system without dad having to constantly troubleshoot or reinstall.

After my experiences with the pink Dell laptop-from-hell I can understand why in some cases Macs are a good choice of computer. Linux in this case failed miserably to deliver a reasonable desktop experience and would put off any potential converts. Who cares if the computer boots in 20 seconds if in fact you can't get it to function stably or with wireless. Perhaps Ubuntu should try and address the problem of drivers for certain combinations of hardware, otherwise punters are going to go elsewhere. End of rant!

Perhaps I'll reconsider how to proceed after I have tried Statler on my main computer (Acer veriton n260g). Time for thought, I suppose.

I have just checked out Statker xfce and is running very sweetly on the Acer nettop. Wireless, sound etc. all working out of the box.
Time to install then I think and move on.
