How to update fuse / libfuse2?

A short time ago an NTFS-formatted drive on my system dropped during a file transfer across the LAN, with the following error in the kernel log:

Apr 25 19:36:02 prime kernel: [3703187.716080] mount.ntfs[1591]: segfault at 7f06f8c28cf0 ip 00007f06f887859c sp 00007fff8a517cf0 error 4 in libfuse.so.2.9.0[7f06f886f000+2a000]

This is the first time I've experienced this error, so I suspect some recent update has created a conflict, but I'm not sure how to track that down. I've researched "error 4" and found the following info, which seems to point to libfuse 2.9.0 as the culprit, and suggests updating to 2.9.2 or higher solves the problem:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … ug/1072270

My question is, how do I safely go about doing this? My fear is that I'll break some dependency on the system. Hoping someone can guide me through the steps or, if this is being caused by something else, how do I go about fixing it?
