Redirecting to BunsenLabs

Hi All smile

As of this morning, 26th Sept 2015, many of the CrunchBang web addresses are now being redirected the BunsenLabs website. The BunsenLabs team are doing a wonderful job with their continuation of #! and I hope everyone will join them, or get behind them and support the project.

Long live BunsenLabs! smile

It's been my pleasure and a lot of fun. Still a few things left to do, but I think the transition is going well smile

For me it was a privilege and honor to be member of this awersome community and a former crunchbanger, #! will always remain my love distro. Your creativity has been a inspiration for a lot of members including me.

BunsenLabs will start another chapter, will continue on the path of crunchbang. It was the best move that could happen after post #! bang.

While regarding transition, i think the fruit of good works smile

Best regards and best wishes corenominal

You know what they say:  Better late than never ....

My heart has been with #! since 2009 ... I still have #! Waldorf  (tracking Wheezy) here and will have as long as Debian supports it and as long as there are #! Wheezy type support requests.  #! still lives here ... right beside BL RC1

I have #! running a server app in a vm, where it'll probably remain until they stop patching wheezy, absolutely no reason to upgrade and increase overhead !# being ideal for someone from the windows world, power at the cmdline, plus the convenience of a GUI for routine things, without taxing the machine, or my head.

Re: Redirecting to BunsenLabs

@corenominal  Hey Philip, if you look at my registered date you'll see I joined these forums about 2 weeks after you yourself. I had been following your project for a while before that. There were not many on the forums when I first came here but it looked like an interesting project so I stuck around.

CrunchBang ended up being the distro of choice for me for a long time compared to others I tried before and since. Even when I have been using something else, the CrunchBang forums have remained my community of choice. Now I'm playing with the very #! flavoured Bunsen. Well Bunsen may not be your project but it sure does have your stamp on it. What you created and shared with us has been an influence on other projects as well.

So now we will be getting a new forum it seems, and we have reached the end of an era. While I like what the Bunsen gang are doing so far I can tell you that for me it just wont feel the same when I can't say to a friend "oh, for the answer to your question just go to the CrunchBang forums". What you built was cool in it's own right but the name (and the disclaimer that went with it) was definitely part of the charm.

Re: Redirecting to BunsenLabs

I notice that the packages.crunchbang.org and crunchbang downloads are no more, pointing to an end of an era.

I have two #! installs pointing to Jessie and Stretch. I had to change only one script, the logout. I don't have the need for other scripts, except cb-include, but I still keep all of them in /usr/bin for the memory. Later, I placed logout into the menu itself.

The #! Jessie install looks just like Waldorf, wallpaper, menu, conky etc, and it is going to stay there that way. Its been dist-upgraded from time to time. http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic. … 42#p440242

Thank you Philip for #!

Re: Redirecting to BunsenLabs

That's exactly what we're talking about here. The Crunchbang forum has the power to alter people's names.  We're never going to get that back with another forum.

Back on topic, thank you for all you've given us, Ahab Goodbottom.

I always mistake Philip's name with David. I am sure, everyone knew, who I was thinking about.
This also tells me that I should keep Crunchbang Waldorf alive on Jessie, and on Stretch.

Anaconda... Completely agree. Started using #! ever since Corenominal released it, registered to query my first problem in '09. It's still my workhorse distro - Windows is only virtualized - only used for third party assignments. Best creator, best distro, best forum, best successor (as I'm sure BL will be) ... bar none.

In the beginning there were 2 "desktop" sessions, Openbox and Xfce. The Openbox session has no desktop per se, only helpers; Tint2 and menu. How long would you keep on looking at "the desktop" while working or playing? It is the app you are interested on, and "the desktop" stays underneath. You can call the menu from the Tint2 panel or from a hotcorner. The "original" menu was there to help you to install some apps, and after that you can change it to your liking.

After posting this screeny, http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic. … 42#p440242 I kept on thinking about why #! was always spartan in looks. I am glad that I made the Jessie install look like Waldorf. All the #! scripts, redone to suit Systemd, are activated and working in it and gets dist-upgraded time to time. It is going to stay in that partition in the vanilla state. One day, a live iso would be created from it.

There are still some sites, where you can download #! Waldorf, but you might not want it as the kernel is 3.2. You can, of course, upgrade it to the present Wheezy state within an hour. You'd have to delete the Crunchbang repos from your sources.list. You can also upgrade it to Jessie after, bit tricky, but can be done.

The Stretch install is the working one and has moved beyond #! Waldorf look, but kept the simple 145x145 pixels tile for the "wallpaper." I have also 2 more installs, Arch & Ubuntu 15.10 with the same looks. Sometimes I'd add a wallpaper, just for fun, but would go back to the tile. All this happened because of the original Crunchbang. Thanks again!
