Re: crunchy-dark-grey, a theme for Waldorf (updated for jessie/Janice)

I've uploaded a new version and changed the hosting from MediaFire to Dropbox.

The changes are a fix for the cut-off buttons in GTK3 apps as well as a hack to prevent some GNOME apps from producing a "double shadow" when using Compton and some other compositors.

Please post if the fixes break something else. Tested using Debian GNU/Linux 8.0 (jessie) 3.16.0-4-686-pae.

BTW, someone named zharper has uploaded an older version of this theme to GitHub and renamed it Crunchy-Dark-Grey.  8o

Re: crunchy-dark-grey, a theme for Waldorf (updated for jessie/Janice)

Just a note for those who were considering my suggestion of using the custom color theme with Adwaita:  this only works with the older Adwaita theme in Wheezy.  If you try it in Jessie or Sid using the gtk.resource from an older version of Adwaita, you'll get gtk+ parsing errors; if you try it without importing the resource (no separate resource file is included in the current version), any attempt at customizing the colors without defining widget classes will hurt your eyes very badly.

Where was that suggestion? I have a bad cold and can't seem to find my way through the fog.

^Thanks, Master P! From that scrot, I can tell that you were running your theme from ~/.themes (auto-mnemonics, baby!)

New version available, removed tooltip rounding that I had noticed before but only had fixed locally.  tongue

Re: crunchy-dark-grey, a theme for Waldorf (updated for jessie/Janice)

UPDATE: Improvements to making this this work on Debian jessie. I haven't tested if this breaks waldorf/wheezy usability, so keep you either don't install this or rename this update before installing it if you're in doubt.

Installed and using your theme on Waldorf, all seems okay. Will report anything out of the ordinary. Thank you for this smile

Re: crunchy-dark-grey, a theme for Waldorf (updated for jessie/Janice)

I don't know if this is any help, feedback-wise, but I tested  the most current crunchy theme on sid with different results.
On Siduction LXDE, which is openbox, Gimp and obconf didn't render everything as it should (obconf tab text is dark):

However, on Siduction Xfce, Gimp rendered perfectly.

(Yes, I noticed in the scrots it says "cruncy"...I have small bouts of Monty-Python-itus from time to time.)

Re: crunchy-dark-grey, a theme for Waldorf (updated for jessie/Janice)

Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore, is not in this bit.

Thanks for testing, you've confirmed that dark themes are problematic! Also, what pvsage reported... that lxappearance and xfsettingsd and the other settings daemons theme widgets differently from one another.

Can I suggest sticking with Xfce?  tongue

Actually, I spoke too soon. I figured out the problem. So, now my sid LXDE openbox crunchy theme look great. (Gimp and obconf)

For the record, and in case the issue arises in the future, what was the fix?

Go to /usr/share/themes and delete the Adwaita folder.

I forgot I had done this on my xfce the other day. On sid, Adwaita seems to be causing a lot of gtk headaches, so I said WTF, "To cure the headache...cut off the head." And it worked. wink

^Now that is interesting, as both damo and I have experienceed theme-switching weirdness. I've uninstalled gnome-themes-standard-data to test. Thanks for this!

Re: crunchy-dark-grey, a theme for Waldorf (updated for jessie/Janice)

A little late seeing this, sorry and thanks for the compliment. This theme is lagging behind Greybird, which it's based off of, and I can't fix it right now as I'm waiting for delivery of a new computer at the end of this week. Check out Bunsen2-blue-dark for something more up to date, you can easily change the color hex codes to match this theme (in /gtk-2.0/gtkrc, /gtk-3.0/gtk.css and /xfce-notify-4.0/gtkrc.

I use this on LXDE for about 3 weeks. After the first days i felt like i got emotionally affected by the dark and slightly melancholic look, but then some acclimatization established and by now it feels almost perfect for me. Will not change this theme for a long time.

Thanks!  smile
