Replace lightdm with slim

Hi Everyone, I would like to replace lightdm with slim on the Bunsenlabs alpha2 .. will I face any problems .. i.e. was there a specific reason why lightdm was used instead of slim in the first place?

Re: Replace lightdm with slim

SLiM has been abandoned and doesn't set up the user session correctly with systemd, according to the Arch wiki...
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/SLiM

Both the Debian Xfce and LXDE Live ISOs use lightdm, that's what we went with. I've used lightdm for ages, it's light, stable and customizable.

That said, slim is still available in jessie, try it if you want...
https://packages.debian.org/en/jessie/slim

After installing, I imagine you'd run...

sudo dpkg-reconfigure slim

... choose slim and reboot. Then remove lightdm if everything is OK

Re: Replace lightdm with slim

Looks nice smile

Couple of suggestions though:

1) Have the flame icon on the login panel a pale shade to match the background image

2) Use background_style        stretch, so the bg fills the screen (I don't see the bg text otherwise)

No toes stepped on! (I've got lots of slim themes)

Re: Replace lightdm with slim

Hello Everyone, here are the updated BunsenLabs SLiM themes the changes suggested by <<damo>> have been incorporated and I've added a little twist of my own on the second one (it's got a blue-green flame instead of the regular grey) these can be downloaded here >> standard  and bg flame

let me know what you think .. also let me know of any changes you'd like .. I will try to incorporate them as soon and as well as I can

Re: Replace lightdm with slim

Hey, it's 2015  replace lightdm with sddm  - but wait until next rollout when they get the umlauts fixed.  Toward the end of my expeiment using kf5 KDE5 on sparky, that was about all that worked.
