Name (query) [Solved] BunsenLabs

The name of this part of the forum is Bunsen Laboratory but the agreed name was BunsenLabs. Is there a reason for not using BunsenLabs? I liked it because it sounds a bit like Bell Labs. In any case, that was the agreed name. Not to mention that laboratory has two different pronunciations smile

I think it works OK for me - a "laboratory" is where the evil geniuses of BunsenLabs do their research and experiments big_smile

Re: Name (query) [Solved] BunsenLabs

I have no preference for Laboratory or Labs. My hope is that either should refer to the development of a LIVE ISO, but that said ISO would just be called "Bunsen" or "Bunsen Beaker" or "Bunsen Janice" when released.

Re: Name (query) [Solved] BunsenLabs

Maybe late to the party and also who am I - but I really don't like the current name; I totally understand the idea behind it all, link with the muppets and stuff regarding Crunchbang's Waldorf & Statler - but - you see what I did there; it's Crunchbang primarily and Waldorf & Statler are just working titles...  Totally no idea how "huge" you guys are seeing this project but if you're going for Bunsen Laboratory as the distro's name, with Beaker the pun has already ended, and you can't use Bunsen as a working title since Bunsen Laboratory Bunsen looks totally wrong.  Also there's just no ZING to it all...

A: "Hey have you seen that latest distro yet?"
B: "What distro?"
A: "The community based distro which spawned after the sad news of Crunchbang"
B: "Yah read about that somewhere, what was it called again... Something Bunsen"
A: "Bunsen Laboratory"
B: neutral
A: neutral

Also; as stated before - who am I - these is just my humble opinion, and I don't want to offend anyone by any means here... just that, there's no ZING if you know what I mean, Crunchbang - was ... Bang! in your face - instant coolness.  cool

Re: Name (query) [Solved] BunsenLabs

Just some thinking about the name..

At first I didn't like the name "Bunsenlabs" at all (mainly cause in my opinion there was already better name suggested), but after a while I really have learn to like this new name. smile

Even though the Clear Brake Linux would be almost (if not exactly) as good name suggestion...

Why I like(d) the name Clear Brake Linux a lot?

1) It wasn't originally mentioned as a name suggestion, but someone took it off the context/sentence and turned it one..

2) Cause it was kind of accidental suggestion, it didn't try to be clever name, it simply was/is.

3) For now it would stand for clear brake from crunchbang, but later it would stand as clear/clean distribution (=fast, no bells and whistles etc. and thus simply one also), but also break would be "warning" as bang previously was.

4) It would pass the "hat test", especially is old logo #! could be used (after all, someone else might use it later on if not this community and that wouldn't be cool at all)

Anyway, I'm looking forward to have BunsenLabs Linux in my hands. smile And what comes to topic, I think it's good to name this part of forum as it is now.

Just my 2snt smile

Re: Name (query) [Solved] BunsenLabs

The "laboratory" connection opens up a world of options for naming conventions - eg names of elements for releases etc. (Although there is no element beginning with "J" sad )

^ I was thinking along similar lines.

"BunsenLabs Neon" has a great ring to it! cool

EDIT: shock horror! You are using a US source aren't you? That's why aluminium is spelled wrong!

Re: Name (query) [Solved] BunsenLabs

Funnily enough, out of 4 CrunchBang releases, only the last two carried the names of Muppets. The first two releases were unnamed, I think.

How about Wallace and Gromit? BunsenLabs Wallace. BunsenLabs Gromit. They were a double act, like Statler and Waldorf, and they did a lot of tinkering too.

Alternatively, we could use characters from The A-Team e.g. BunsenLabs The Face, BunsenLabs Murdoch, Burden Labs Hannibal. I could go on.
