Re: Deb8, a theme for jessie (updated Jan 25, '15; gtk3 bugfixes)

@jalexander, thanks!

UPDATE - I currently use only a handful of gtk3 apps, but Unia was kind enough to test Deb8 on GNOME 3 and noticed several oddities. It turns out I hadn't imported any of the radio buttons or checkboxes into the gtk.css file... oops! See the original post for the updated theme link, and post here if you see any problems or have any criticisms. Thanks.

Get well soon, Unia!

Hi hhh, noticed today by running lxappearance from terminal this output:

nili@crunchbang:~$ lxappearance

** (lxappearance:4096): WARNING **: Pixbuf theme: Cannot load pixmap file /home/nili/.themes/Deb8/gtk-2.0: Image file '/home/nili/.themes/Deb8/gtk-2.0' contains no data

Re: Deb8, a theme for jessie (updated Jan 25, '15; gtk3 bugfixes)

Dang, I thought I posted a reply last night, I must have only previewed it.  tongue

The "critical" warning is benign. Greybird has added an image file to the gtk-2.0 folder named xfsmlogout.png (it looks like it's a vertical separator for the xfce session manager logout dialog). Create an image file with that name and add it to that directory in Deb8, or download the image from Greybird's git-hub and add it, or copy it from your installed Greybird theme if you have it, or wait until tomorrow when I update this theme.  tongue

Now, you want to see useless warning messages, look at what GTK3 (I think) is doing to your ~/.xsession-errors file...
http://segfault.linuxmint.com/2014/10/m … on-errors/

Since my jessie install seems stable enough and since I'm on an old, slow SSD that I don't want all those writes going to, I've locked my ~/.xsession-errors file...

: > .xsession-errors; sudo chattr +i .xsession-errors

Unlock it...

: > sudo .xsession-errors; chattr -i .xsession-errors

^ Is that the "such-and-such will be deprecated" type of messages? That is the gtk3 afaik

I have a script which regularly deletes all but the last 100 lines of the errors file if it is above a certain size.

Re: Deb8, a theme for jessie (updated Jan 25, '15; gtk3 bugfixes)

I was mostly getting lxpanel messages, probably because I'm not running lxsession. I also get messages with any GTK3 app because I removed a11y (accessibility, I can't remember which package specifically), but GNOME wants it installed.

I haven't found much online about this, I imagine because most people don't check/know about ~/.xsession-errors, and most people run a full DE. Here's a mailing list thread that mentions your errors and mine...
https://mail.gnome.org/archives/evoluti … 00072.html

Of course, the blame gets put on the user... "You don't have accessibility installed, you don't have a session manager installed..."  tongue

Since the theme is GPL and all I have created a .deb package of the theme.

.deb download | git repository

Please enjoy.

Re: Deb8, a theme for jessie (updated Jan 25, '15; gtk3 bugfixes)

I have a bug report: While in GTK3 the scrollbar ends are square, in GTK2, the scrollbars' buttons are rounded and the space around the arc is not grey but white which is an optical bother.

Example:

UPDATE: several fixes (the above bug, error messages squashed, GTK3 buttons not cut off, lightdm improvements). See the OP for the download link.

@twoion, thanks for the work you're doing. Please see that the update are applied. Also, I have Bunsen1 and crunchy-dark-grey working on jessie, if you want to package those...
http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=31510
http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic. … 09#p418609

The Bunsen tar.gz also contains wallpapers, those should maybe get separated out?

Can you write a tutorial on creating a DEB package, or point me to the one you used so I don't have to bother you with this?

I've opened a pull request and imported your update (I'll probably get commit access myself soon).

I'll package these extras when I've got time, probably tomorrow evening.

I agree that we should make a separate wallpaper package because of the file size -- how many resolutions have we got (ideally there'd be 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10 versions as well as different resolutions for each)?

Re: Deb8, a theme for jessie (updated Jan 25, '15; gtk3 bugfixes)

As for .deb packaging guide, @johnraff has written something on this already, but his method is the old deprecated one (which works perfectly fine, but we should migrate to the standard Debian one if we want it easy with signing stuff etc in the future).

The de-facto standard documentation is the lengthy Debian New Maintainers' Guide which documents all the details and caveats reasonbaly well (albeit quite dispersed). I think I can write a basic guide and put it on the wiki or so sometime this week.

^Right now I'm just using the default size that Philip used for "velvet-noise" in Waldorf, which is 1920x1200. I desaturated and enhanced the joy, joy-inksplat and lines wallpapers at their max resolutions whixh is also 1920x1200 for the joys and lines, plus lines also has what looks like a dual-monitor resolution of 2560x1080.

So, no tutorial?  tongue

Found another minor issue with gsimplecal from tint2

Allgray for Openbox
Appear to be compact.

Deb8
have too much spaces between numbers and txt.

Can anything be done to this direction hhh to make like first pic?
P.S. my font config is the same for both only themes are different.

That Deb8 scrot looks almost the same as the website's scrot...

Greybird and all my Greybird-based themes render like this using Trebuchet MS 9 (colors have been customized)...

I'd like Deb8 as the customized link or your new scrot at screenshots thread rather than website gsimplecal original. smile

You're not understanding, that is Deb8, it just has the colors changed. Here...
Screenshot_02202015_10_26_44_AM.jpg
fullsize

What font are you using? What happens if you use Trebuchet MS 9 font or another font? Have you tried redownloading/reinstalling the theme? Sorry, I can't fix what isn't broken for me.

I use lxpanel, it has a clock widget with a decent calender.

Re: Deb8, a theme for jessie (updated Jan 25, '15; gtk3 bugfixes)

I am using font FreeSans Oblique 9 on lxappearance, i use this font for all themes, only Deb8 behaves differently for gsimplecal.
I will try to localize what difference does it with others themes.

Edit: Found a issue on my lxappearance font no issue with Deb8, just fixed my concern. Sorry for bringing nonsense trouble hhh.
Thank you.

That was really meant as a .deb hacking guide. icon_wink.gif For personal use only.

I'm definitely in favour of doing things the standards-compliant way when it comes to making things for Bunsen. It saves all kinds of trouble further down the road.
