Debarchery - FluxBB (PHP) developer needed

Screen_Shot_2015_02_08_at_10_44_24.png
The idea would be to use the tested #! community principles to build a support forum around similar Debian and Arch interests. So it would use the same FluxBB technology as the #! forums and would contain similar subsections. If you have the right skills set, PM me and we'll get to work. It goes without saying that moderation will be required but until it's built, there won't be anything to moderate.

Possible sections could be:

General

  • News & Announcements

  • Feedback & Suggestions

  • Help & Support (Debian stable)

  • Help & Support (Debian testing)

  • Help & Support (Arch Linux)

  • Debian and Arch Talk

Userspace

  • Introductions

  • Artwork & Screenshots

  • Tips, Tricks & Scripts (Debian)

  • Tips, Tricks & Scripts (Arch)

  • WM/DE Talk

  • Off Topic / General Chat

That's a fairly offensive slogan.

^Really? It's just a joke a former boss of mine used to use. It made me laugh.

How about "Unofficial Debian and Arch Linux forums where there are no stupid questions"?

How about just "Unofficial Debian and Arch Linux forums"?

I think that says it all quite nicely smile

"Stupid people" don't necessarily ask stupid questions...
And stupid questions don't necessarily come from "stupid people"...

In my mind there are no such thing as stupid people (stupidity is not a personal feature). But I can say that all people do act stupid from time to time (some more than others). But that is only my humble opinion  hmm

Re: Debarchery - FluxBB (PHP) developer needed

It's ok. I think that whatever comes from the ashes of CrunchBang will be because one or two people with the requisite skills and the right vision will decide to do it.

I thought of doing the forum myself. I could probably put the software together and get it hosted. However, I wouldn't know how to secure it properly and keep users and their data safe so that's out of the question. If I did have that expertise, I would have just done it. That is how it will happen. Whatever it is.

What is CrunchBang?

  • Openbox WM

  • Discreet dark grey elegance

  • Post-installation script (for installing Oracle Java, Apache, etc.)

  • That menu thingummy along the bottom

  • Tint2

  • Conky (still relevant in 2015?)

  • Friendly/knowledgeable community

  • Terminator as terminal

  • Debian stable base

Wading in w babble 2 cents.

Politically Correct warning: What's follows is potentially extremely offensive, insulting or controversial. Read on @ your own risk. YOU WANT THE TRUTH !?!?!? ... CAN YOU HANDLE THE TRUTH !?!?!? smile

IntoCB, it's fargin brilliant dude. Don't have time/energy atm to be directly involved but sounds like exactly the kind of gnu/nix community I'd be interested in joining. That 100% includes the original motto, not going to rant or babble about it. Though if people's lil feelers get hurt by something like that, they don't have to participate and for all those who believe the world doesn't ( nor even shouldn't ) have some rough edges.

Exactly the kind of people I don't want to be around. Some of the best experiences of my life and the most important lessons I managed to learn were found dancing on the edge of friggin oblivion, shrugs. Overall sounds like a kickbutt concept and would be in good hands w an nixer like yaself at the helm. wink

No shiny, happy people holding hands died while typing this. Tortured a bit, meh. None of em are dead though ... at least not YET. Lol ...

The funny (but offensive ]:D ) slogan would be a good way of having a kind of doorman. If you enter the premises, then you know what happens if you haven't RTFM, so no complaints.

The way I see the proposal (correct me if I'm wrong intoCB) is a forum for similar, compatible interests around Debian/Arch. Accessible for newcomers, but they would have to do some work first, so CBiz wants to be around them. And damo could relax a bit and be less diplomatic sometimes show his true colours wink

YESSSSS !

Don't worry though Damo, your colors still shine through fellow nixer, though so does the strain of having to be diplomatic. wink Gawd forbid someone's widdle feelers get hurt, even if they're a complete and total butthole. Personally want to see more than that type of persons feelerz get hurt. Wonder how many pounds of pressure it'd take to put their head on backwards for em. tongue

Nough internet warrior typing from this babbler, sighs ... That kinda crap is clearly lame. Vll!

Re: Debarchery - FluxBB (PHP) developer needed

Might I interject and advocate for MyBB? I've just done a deep dive of some of the most prolific message forum suites around now, and MyBB seems to be the most stable, currently developed, well documented, easily themeable software. I'm using it for my own forum now, if you're curious to check it out themed (no content but may be interesting to poke in and see) it's http://hashtaglinux.org/forums - I threw phpbb up and then took it down shortly after reading about security holes during updates. smile

Re: Debarchery - FluxBB (PHP) developer needed

The existing Debian and Arch Linux forums already do an excellent job of gently chiding their users and steering them towards the existing documentation. Some people enjoy that experience. However, I've always felt that the #! forums offer an alternative more indulgent experience, which I find a breath of fresh air. The idea of Debarchery would be to continue that tradition.

As for FluxBB, it's simply what the #! forums are using. The main motivation is continuity and I want Debarchery to be as close as possible to the #!-forums. Other technologies may be better.
