Thanks for your brillant work in setting up a lightweight Debian/OpenBox distro, and for your generosity in helping users with technical issues in this Forum. You've shown us how it's done.
It's been a good run. All the best in your new endeavours.
Thanks again for all you've done for the people who use Linux. We have to take up the mantle to show newcomers how to set up their computers with Linux distributions that will meet their needs -- whatever those needs may be. :-)
Cheers, Mate!

Back when I was still a Linux user, I liked #! for its quite unique OOTB experience. Something Debian won't ever have, I guess.
There's still a niche where #! fits in quite perfectly. I find it sad to see you go.
FreeBSD | OpenBSD | Windows. Randomly lurking.
Decentralized #! eD2k/Kad mirror.

Thanks Corenominal for all your work through the years. I began using CrunchBang around 8.04 and I really liked it's simplistic approach but also very powerful and flexibel at the same time. I'm using Debian Jessie with a minimal Gnome 3 setup right now and was looking forward to switch to Janice when it come out, but I guess that won't happen.
Could anyone suggest any Debian+Openbox alternative if there exists such a ting.

Thanks, thanks and thanks again Corenominal !!!

Big thanks to @Corenominal for the work he's done!
(I created an account so I could say that...)
I'd always thought that the decision to create a distinct distro a fairly insane amount of work for this. I would love to see the project live on as a package made available to use on vanilla Debian and Ubuntu (even if only as a PPA), rather than a distinct distro.

Dear Corenominal,
i was with you in your first crunchtests (crunchbang-7.10) , talking, laughing on your blog. i've started dev because of you, because of your configs and KISS spirit. i can't say how much i want to thank you for all that you give. certainly because i'm french and i don't have enough vocabulary
anyway ... after my first reaction ( but WTF#@@!!!** NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!! ) i have to admit that i just can't let CrunchBang die ! and i don't agree with you when you say that crunchbang is useless til the LXDE taskel coming.
so if anyone wish to develop crunchbang on jessie, or want to use crunchbang on jessie, i'm proposing my little skill to test & build a CrunchBang distro based on Jessie.
i'm not here so often because i'm developping handylinux, a debian derivative for very beginners, but i think that crunchbang is the best Official Debian Derivative around and i really dont' want to let it go.
be sure that even if nobody here want to continue the crunchbang adventure, i will make a distro with Debian/OpenBox as light as i can for my personal needs so....

Sounds great, I would be interested to put in some configs/bash scripts/aliases/wallpapers/modified themes/modified icons into such project (whatever needed). p.s. arpbang sounds good to me.

I have had to remove a post from this thread regarding incentive funding. Please do not start third-party funding campaigns. Anything like that should be cleared with corenominal. Thank you.

Many thanks for the great ride with a great distro and a great community, Corenominal/Philip! As a retired person with a couple of careers behind me, I understand and respect your decision. You've contributed mightily to Linux and you can look back and be proud of what you accomplished with CrunchBang.
When I was still experimenting with dual-booting Linux (Ubuntu and Mint) on my Macs more than 5 years ago, I couldn't figure out how to get Debian and Debian-based distros to run on my hardware, but I was so intrigued by the name CrunchBang that it was the first distro I ran in VB. When the old MacBook died and I replaced it with a System76 laptop, CrunchBang was the first distro I ran after removing Ubuntu. It was a big step for me, but thanks to the forums and the great folks who participate, I discovered that I rarely had to ask for help in trying to figure things out. A quick search almost always answered any question I had--and still does. During that time, I learned enough from other CrunchBangers to run #! on my now old iMac and more recently succeeded in running #! Sid on it for several months with no crashes or problems.
Again many thanks and all the best in your future endeavors and Godspeed.

to corenominal and the #! community - i just can't say enough about this wonderful distro. i will drink a few to the sad news but will wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors nonetheless. btw, i will continue to use #! on my laptops until the wheels fall off. cheers.

@corenominal & @bobobex,
Thanks for the time, money and love you shared with all who benefited from your work.
I learned from #! and moved on; still occasionally checking in, keeping a copy
of the current Crunchbang on an Easy2Boot USB, just in case.
All the best in your future endeavors.
saludos,
Richard.

A black day in Linux history. I really am kinda shocked. But I think everything has been thought over and the right decisions have been made. Crunchbang wasn't just a distro, it was a way of life.
Thanks for allowing me those years joining the "dark side".

Philip -You built such a great distro and a great community to go along with it. I had such great times here and learned a lot while I was at it. Thank you.
I understand your decision completely.. but it still makes me sad. ;-)

Since my adoption of crunchbang I have learned enough about linux to know that I can be just as happy without crunchbang. This is so much more important to me than the distribution itself. I am very thankful for everyone's hard work on this project and wish the best of luck on all of your future endeavors.
