Re: Crunchbang on an SSD?

There are other benefits to using an SSD besides speed. You use less power and generate less heat with them as well. Here's my advice if you're on the fence about it: Use a tool like iotop or atop to monitor and log your disk utilization for a few days while you use the machine. See if you are exceeding the maximum transfer rate ever, and if so how often. Also remember that transfer rates aren't the only performance benefit of an SSD, you also have to worry about random R/W IOPS, something that is harder to benchmark. Do you notice any kind of lag when browsing through directories in your file manager? An SSD can definitely make a system more responsive, but if it's not being noticeably unresponsive in the first place, you may only notice a difference at boot time.
Me personally, I am more of a power user than most, but once I started using SSDs I vowed to never run software from an HDD ever again if I could avoid it.

Re: Crunchbang on an SSD?

I have 6G here and have not ever once touched swap. It almost seems pointless to have it partitioned.
