Second pic looks like cycles to me and I can't imagine he would hop render engines in the middle of a project and if you look reaaallly closely in the last picture you can almost see some graininess although at that point it might just be JPEG compression.

I go where I'm comfortable.  :-P

Nine hours was a bit of an exaggeration.  The last render took about 6 hours and 37 minutes, rendered at a size where the length and width were at four digits and at 3000 passes (I don't have an nVidia graphics card... yet).
