No keyboard at install window [SOLVED]

I am trying to install Crunchbang on my iMac. I have had no other problems with other distros but for some reason when I start from the CD, I am not able to use my keybord to select the install option. Nothing happens. I tried two different CD's from two separate downloads with the same result. I have used these CD's to install on my PC's with no problems. Any ideas what might be going on?

Re: No keyboard at install window [SOLVED]

Forgive my ignorance concerning all things Apple, but are you using a wireless Apple keyboard with your iMac or a wired keyboard?  Are you in the livecd session when trying to install?

Re: No keyboard at install window [SOLVED]

Sorry about not providing that info. I am using a wired keyboard with a CD install. Not a DVD-RW disc but a regular DVD.

Re: No keyboard at install window [SOLVED]

Check this Debian FAQ entry.  To edit your boot command, you would select the kernel you want to boot in GRUB and hit "e" .  Then add your "noapic nolapic" flags to the boot command.

Re: No keyboard at install window [SOLVED]

Thanks for the tip but I'm not sure when starting up the Mac where I would make this change. The first thing that comes up is the Refit menu which shows me options to boot from (CD, Mac OS, Linux. I think there may be some settings that I can change.  I'll see how that goes and post back with the results.

Re: No keyboard at install window [SOLVED]

It should be once the cd boots, there should be a black window with crunchbang at the top and a list of boot options in a box.  I'm going off of memory, so I may be mistaken.

Re: No keyboard at install window [SOLVED]

I get to the Crunchbang CD install window with the options to boot live, install and a third option I can't remember at the moment. When I am at this stage, the keyboard doesn't work at all. So if the keyboard doesn't work, I'm not sure how to enter the code I need to enter as outlined in the Debian FAQ. That's why I think it might be in the refit options. I'll check that out.

Re: No keyboard at install window [SOLVED]

Would this help at all to solve my problem?

http://refit.sourceforge.net/doc/c2s3_shell.html

If so, what option would I use?

Re: No keyboard at install window [SOLVED]

Problem solved! It was my Apple keyboard that was causing the problem. Apparently it's a bug in the keyboard.

Now I can install Crunchbang on my iMac and update the kernel so it works properly for what I need Crunchbang to do.
