Hi there,
I've been using debian for a couple months, decided to try Crunchbang.
I'm having a lot of issues, I think I may need to install additional drivers.
My browser flickers a lot when I toggle between pages, the audio crashes randomly and there is no wireless connection menu
Where do you usually find missing drivers ?
(Acer X551 MAV, 4GB Ram)
Thanks a lot!

Hello & welcome to #!
Where do you usually find missing drivers ?
Have you looked behind the sofa? That's where I always find missing stuff...
But seriously, have you updated your system?
sudo su -c 'apt-get update && apt-get upgrade'
Debian add new drivers to the Wheezy kernel so it's possible that this will solve your problems.
If not, try a kernel from Wheezy-backports:

Yea I've run update&upgrade
I'm new to this, but can't I simply install individual drivers ?
Offline
You could, but the method I linked above will be far simpler...

so I did, it improved things a bit but now I completely lost the audio
I ran lspci and my audio controller is
Intel Corporation ValleyView High Definition Audio Controller (rev 0e)
I googled it but can only find pages of people asking the same question : where do I find the driver ?
(thanks for your time btw)

Please post the full output of:

^ Don't worry, I know very little about pulseaudio so I'm probably about to do the same myself
Does pavucontrol still show up? (the volume control in the systray)
Can you try selecting different outputs?
Offline
so if I unplug my earphones and choose speakers on the output menu, it works fine, but as soon as I plug my earphones in, the sound stops
I saw a couple of thread where people got rid of pulse audio.
Is that the solution ?

I don't use pulseaudio so I can't help you directly, but does the control have an separate option for headphone volume?
In my pure ALSA setup, there is a separate mixer for the headphones.
Offline
yes
Offline
removing pulseaudio and using ALSA yields the same result

Have you tried using:
alsamixer
Make sure the "Headphone output" is un-muted (it should have "OO" above the numerical volume readout, not "MM").
Offline
it has 00, still can't hear a thing.

Do your headphones work with other sources?
Do the headphones work in the live #! environment?

yes

i'm not sure what that means. It worked before I added the backport thingy (but really sucked)

That makes no sense -- the new kernel added no new drivers at all, and certainly has no effect on your audio setup...
I'm stumped, sorry
