Hi I'm new, I just though I'd share how miserable my day has been because of a sd card. I've tried installing from a live usb to hdd, nothin (well, the partitioning stalled), so I burnt the iso to disc. Installation seemed to go fine, yet no boot. so four re runs of the installation with various changes along the way, until I finally popped out an sd card that had been sitting in the slot.
Crunchbang roared into life.
Bloody sd card nearly made me give up.
thanks for letting me have a gripe

you're welcome!
and hey, someone might yet benefit from this; you could even mark it [Solved].

You could call it solved but why was the SD card being in the slot causing it to fail?
Some people have installed to an SD card, using it instead of a conventional hard drive or SSD.
Seems more like you have found the real problem than solved it.
Unless you are satisfied with the results as is.

There's a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people.

I've done zero investigation as to why the sd card was causing a problem, it was a kingston 16gb micro sd in an adapter formatted as ntfs, left over from the prior win 7 installation.
It could be a red herring, but once it was removed Waldorf worked as expected.
