Looks great - well, not completely, because I'm trying it out on a 1366x768 laptop!

Love that clock smile

I was getting some ghost conky backgrounds though, until I turned compositing off sad

Clock is originally by easysid over on Ubuntu - really nice guy.  In the README is a link to a YouTube of the original he made.

Using #! compton ... compton.conf add this:

## Remove Shadow from CONKY WINDOW ##
## compliments mrpreachy and falldown
# use wininfo to determine window name -OR- in the conky:
# own_window_class window-name
# Then just simply use:
#		shadow-exclude = "n:e:window-name";
# Use brackets and comma for more then one window
#		shadow-exclude = ["n:e:conky_logo","n:e:conkyw","n:e:FDC","n:e:S11","n:e:test"];
############## try this #################
shadow-exclude = ["i:e:Conky","i:e:interactiveconky","i:e:click_log"];

Now any conky that has a:

own_window_class Conky ### which this conky does
or
own_window_class interactiveconky
or
own_window_class click_log

will be shadowless!

If you have problems getting it to fit ... let me know

With just a few tweaks it can work - wall reduced to 1366x768 and centered on my screen:

Thank you.  I'm trying hard to get away from the "HUGE_has_everything_including_the kitchen_sink" conkys that I've build for years!

But as always there is a draw to make a conky for a specific wallpaper - unique!

Thanks for the compton hack smile

I just banged that conky onto my laptop at work to see how it looked, so I didn't bother with getting things to fit. We'll see how it goes on the bigger screen at home.

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

Try starting conky from a terminal and see if you get an error message, or can determine if it's hanging on a certain section - like getting the weather data.

The original #! conkyrc can be found in /etc/skel.

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

@ observingly - from the pastbin:

From your conky:

im_lib_cache_size 10

should be:

imlib_cache_size 10

and only these two:

minimum_size 268 768 ## w|h
maximum_width 268

maximum_length 768 <<-- does not exist

From config settings

maximum_width     Maximum width of window
minimum_size     Minimum size of window

cleaned those up and I get:

Conky: got an else without matching if

in hunt mode now ....

Transparent/God-Mode <<--- I LIKE that!!!  will mess up testing but I LIKE IT!!!!

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

@ observingly

it's in your clock section:

Conky: got an else without matching if
X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 61 (X_ClearArea)
Resource id in failed request: 0x0
Serial number of failed request: 27
Current serial number in output stream: 29

By the way, the first errors show up in the code as black:

OK but remember you asked for it ...

${time %H:%M:%S} do it the easy way: ${time %T} either way, both are the same. wink

minimum_size 250 50
maximum_width 240

Say what?  the minimum width is greater than the maximum width?  This does not add up. 8)

minimum_width 240 <--- this command does not exist tongue

OK, now a question ...

Why use ${exec sensors | awk ...} that uses a lot of CPU resources?

exec
     command
Executes a shell command and displays the output in conky. warning: this takes a lot more resources than other variables. I'd recommend coding wanted behaviour in C and posting a patch.

When ${platform ... } would do what you want without and "exec" call?

platform
     (dev) type n (factor offset)
Platform sensor from sysfs (Linux 2.6). Parameter dev may be omitted if you have only one platform device. Platform type is either 'in' or 'vol' meaning voltage; 'fan' meaning fan; 'temp' meaning temperature. Parameter n is number of the sensor. See /sys/bus/platform/devices/ on your local computer. The optional arguments 'factor' and 'offset' allow precalculation of the raw input, which is being modified as follows: 'input = input * factor + offset'. Note that they have to be given as decimal values (i.e. contain at least one decimal place).

Using Sensors, nice re-write by mrpeachy.

I'll stop here before you get out a bunch of throwing knives.  big_smile

EDIT:  Bet you can not right click on your conky to get your menu can you?

But in case you ever want that "conky space" as a click-able desktop just change:

own_window_type desktop

to

own_window_type normal

Few more advantages to that too:
[Alt]+[Left-click-hold] and you can move the conky around
[Alt]+[Right-click-hold-near-center] and you can move the conky around
[Alt]+[Right-click-hold-near edge|corner] and you can re-size the conky window

Just some fun facts to know.

I have a separate partition for the system, and because I like to reinstall my whole computer almost every week (or at least before #!) I am used to put every important data to the cloud. (but I still don't have much. I'm usually just having temporary files)

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

Instead of

conky --config=/home/$USER/.conkyrc1&

in a terminal, try

conky -c ~/.conkyrc1 &

if you rename .conkyrc1 to .conkyrc and leave it in /home/<your_user_name> , then just the command "conky" in a terminal will read your configuration file.

And there is a nice conky thread on this forum for additional questions -
