Hi
I have 20000 files in the external HDD that I'm trying to index with Recoll
When I run Recoll it stops before indexing all the files (as of now it indexed 4k) , when it happens I also can't browse the external HDD, this is what I see
That's the external HDD, it's formatted with NTFS
I'm running a debian based distro..
There is enough space for Recoll to create the database file
any lead would be appreciated

Any error messages from recoll ?
Try mounting the ext HDD through fstab / manually, i.e. create a folder to mount it to and run a mount command.
This should keep it alive ?
If that fails, can you test that Recoll is working OK on another set of files? You may need to add this:
thrQSizes = -1 -1 -1
to your conf file ?

Thanks Joe90 it appears it was the multithreading in Recoll, once I disabled it with
thrQSizes = -1 -1 -1
it's ok

Hi,
I stumbled here while looking for Recoll issues, I maintain Recoll.
It's true that multithread indexing has its issues, but they usually manifest themselves by a crashed indexer, not lost disk access...
It is possible that disabling multithreading lowered the load on the disk and let it live an easier life, so this was good advice, but you probably have a hard disk issue, which is a thing to keep in mind: you want very good backups.
Maybe the kernel messages have something to say about the disk (dmesg or /var/log/messages).
Cheers,
jf

I'll echo this. I had an external drive that kept "disconnecting", first I thought it was a faulty cable (plausible), but the thing died out on me later.
