Why he made me a moderator, goodness only knows!
Probably favoritism ]:D (if google translate translated that correctly..)

Anyway, it may seem as a thankless task, but we do really appreciate your work with Phillips baby, even though we from time to time can seem to take your work for granted. I for one are indeed very grateful, as I don`t find any other distro that pleases me. I`ve tried hundreds of them, but I always end up back in #!. I love the distro, and I love the community. So thanks for your dedication, it`s much appreciated.

I want to hear your suggestions on how we, your moderators, can better serve our community.
I always felt the moderators did the best that they could in the most considerate of ways, and I would be hard pressed to suggest anything to improve upon that.
I see many people here who follow that lead, including myself, and feel therein lies the strength of this community.
So if anything, I will say: "keep on setting the good example"

@kb 8o : Thank you. {)
So, to answer the age-old question "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?"... You do. The custodians' behavior is a direct reflection of the community they serve; therefore, the community is ultimately responsible for their behavior. That, in a nutshell, is the purpose of this thread.

OK, folks, we're not going there. We are currently working with Linode on this, and chances are the authorities will be involved somewhere along the line.
A democratic moderating approach would employ a revolving set of moderators rather than a select few, which breeds corruption. Power corrupts, distributing it mitigates such issues.
Thank you for your opinion, dura. And you're welcome for the services that the volunteer moderators provide on their own time.

I come back after 4 months away and get accused of that madness?! You're proper weird! Wish I hadn't said anything...

Let's not do this.

I'll make this unanimous.
@intoCB & dura: Let's not do anything we'll regret. Some of us have our own suspicions regarding who's behind the DDoS, but it is not a matter for public speculation.

@ew: Dawww, you're such a softy. Care for a pony? Or several?
Haven`t had time for the ponies yet. My wife has me still under the whip, ordering me around with lots of DIY-jobs in the house. Her big hobby is interiour design, and she watches everything related to that, all the home makeover programs and things like that, and unfortunately unlike most geeks I`m quite handy so I end up with all the work. When I cross the finish-line and have done every room in the house, then it`s time to do it all over again.

This forum, delineated by Community, is moderated perfectly well for all intents and purposes.
However, when it comes to the IRC Channel #crunchbang-offtopic moderated by one Dizzie kicking a Member, followed by Banning that same Member who may be aloof at times, yet is in good standing with the Community as a whole, this kind of abuse of authority for which one is nominated sends the wrong message to potential Community Members and even current Community Members.
Granted, I'm among the best there is when it comes to human manipulation.
It's my job to understand people.
It's my job to get to the Root of any given situation.
Be that as it may, I am not one to Troll or any such thing as that.
I am however one to stand my ground by nature, and in this case, after demonstrating a lack of ability to match wits over an issue with Window's8.1 (no, I did not pick a fight or anything of that nature), the end result was being revoked from the channel mentioned.
Is this the message we want to send other Members or even potential Members?
No, it isn't.
Resolution doesn't involve "vilifying" an Operater doing their task.
Resolution however does require moderating an individual in blatant abuse of those very powers when a discussion suddenly fails to go there way.
By all means, verify this with any Member in the channel present during the discussion.
And still was I polite even after being told to "shut the fuck up" and such.

Your job?
Someone pays you for this?
Seriously?
I ask because what you're describing above, for all intents and purposes, seems to be an excuse for trollish behavior.
The forum moderators have no control over the IRC channel, and I know Dizzie puts in a lot of time to watch the channels. I would give Dizzie the same benefit of the doubt that I would give my moderator colleagues here.

Indeed, my job, as in Security and Information Analysis.
This is where "what is considered" and what is reality often conflict.
You would "consider" this to be "an excuse for trollish behavior" by your own words.
However, for an adult such as you in excess of 40 years of age, balding, and comfortably overweight yet intelligent, even you cannot deny the logic in the differences listed above, and "labeling" something as "trollish" in avoidance to a simple matter of stating the facts for what they are most assuredly is not what I'd expect from Any Staff Member within the Community my friend.
This leaves you with 2 logical results:
1-Revoke permanently Linuxephus and lable the entire affair as "trolling".
2-Or take the time to read what is written, put aside Personal Feelings, and review the information listed by verifying the entire account of what happened.
We are human, we are prone to making errors in judgement, and in this case, there was an error in judgement mentioned above.
If none here "have any control over the IRC channel", then what is the use of Community here or there?
The Community as a Whole also puts a lot of time into the activity forum side and IRC channel side.
It is one and the same, regardless of status.

I expected that very answer.
And in turn I offer this:
You are welcome for the individual who contacted Linode and enlightened them as to how to put an end to the DDOS Attack.

I'll second Larry's tl;dr, and add that your bloviating makes your posts especially difficult to understand. If you could express yourself clearly and succinctly, it would help your case; prattling on like a junior Senator does not.

Of course you will state such.
Because the subject material reflects sensitive material that reflects upon the Community governed by the Staff Members making such a fuss about a simple matter requiring a simple resolution.
The failure to act upon such a simple resolution indicates this simple truth.
Your current "group" of Staff Members not revoking me speaks volumes to the legitimacy of these very facts.
We both know I have better things to be doing than antagonizing Our Community.
Why is it so difficult to simply do the right thing versus making allegations to the "newcomer" who as a point of fact isn't the outsider you'd like to believe?
And yes good sir, your disdain for the reality of the circumstances comes as no surprise.
But I have faith nonetheless in your (plural) ability to properly judge no matter how unpleasant, or else none of you would be Staff Members to begin with.

So was Linuxephus™'s claims about IRC wrong? I think he/she should have posted logs or something...
