Anyone tried Sabayon?
Yes, I tried Sabayon for several months in 2012. I really liked it. When I decided to cut down to only one distro, it was my second choice. At the time, my others were Arch, Ubuntu, Gentoo, and Siduction. I went with Siduction, and Sabayon was the only one I really regretted leaving.

So much for that idea. SolusOS just announced that it is not going to continue.

Sad to hear that. However, it isn't altogether surprising. The last time I tried it, there seemed to be something of its soul missing.

I just installed Kubuntu 13.10 on my Mac Mini. Wow. It's good! It's incredibly smooth and polished, and it's the first time I haven't felt like KDE was terribly terribly incomplete. I dunno if its KDE 10 or just the way Kubuntu has spun it together, but it feels complete.
I really like how they get around distribution of codecs by prompting the user to download them when needed. It's informative as opposed to just "not working", and it offers the user a way of getting around the problem by downloading the needed ones.
Of course that doesn't mean perfect... I'm working on two problems: ibus not working, and a weird plymouth glitch. Also some things require application restarts that don't seem to say so. And I think the Muon discovery center for applications is still... in progress, but it's quite usable.
I'd give it 4.5/5 stars! Fantastic.
一期一会 Let it be good.

Could you be more specific about this? I'm curious.

As if Ikey Doherty hadn't put all of his heart into the version being spoken of during it's creation.

That's what I mean -- I have never heard anyone say anything negative about SolusOS, so I'm curious about what of "its soul" was missing. Ikey put a lot of work into his distro, and he went far out of his way to make it different from every other Ubuntu or Debian respin.

I don't think IntoCB was speaking negatively about SolusOS per say so much as making an observation that the latest Alpha series of SolusOS2 seemed to lack the loving care Ikey Doherty once put into the SolusOS Eveline versions figuratively speaking.

Thanks, but I was really wondering what IntoCB meant.
BTW, the expression is "per se" from the Latin "by itself." If you need to be verbose, please at least use your Latin correctly.

Porkiepiehat:
{Thanks, but I was really wondering what IntoCB meant.}
-->>You're welcome.
And I believe I explained what IntoCB was meaning to infer.
However, at some point in time IntoCB should be along to explain his own comment shortly.
{BTW, the expression is "per se" from the Latin "by itself." If you need to be verbose, please at least use your Latin correctly.}
-->>Per Say (modern English variant) of the Latin spelling Per Se, defined as "being such inherently, clearly, or as a matter of law" first used in 1572.
Were I speaking Latin, then indeed I would correctly use Latin's "per se" spelling versus the English variant "per say".
Thus I have no need of being verbose when I am by nature simply verbose.
And surely you shouldn't allow such to bother you to the point that you research it, post it, then edit your own commentation to refine your initial reply.
To your credit nonetheless, my thanks for pointing that out be that as it may.

We're getting pretty off-track here. Porkpiehat would like to know what intoCB means, from intoCB. Anything else is speculative.

Ah, come now my friend, proper etiquette is always a must no matter the subject material in question mate.
A hearty thanks for the vote of confidence is in order though as always Ew.
Meanwhile, I suggest we get back on topic lest we should find our rumps relocated betwixt our shoulder blades by those chosen to govern us!

Yes, I have been running a Sabayon since 2006.
A difficult Linux..Not to like.
And the one complaint that I would occasionally hear was "Could be faster"
However, now with systemd as the standard system it really flies... 8)
A lot of innovation has gone into Sabayon. You can make it as nuovo or maven as you like....
I too have a difficult time of it choosing between bases Debian, Slackware, Arch and Gentoo..
My favorites being #!, Salix , Sabayon and Bridge..
OHCG #!, Jessie,, Siduction-13.1, Slackware 14, Bridge,, Sabayon 13.4,

Well, if Distribution is defined as any operating system installed upon a given workstation:
My own Asus Vivo workstation just arrived yesterday --10/29/2013-- preinstalled with Window's 8.1.
And to be honest, I'm loving it.
I thought my M[ostly]S[hitty] (infer Microsoft) days of using anything made by the Corporate Carnival Barkers at Redmond had long since expired.
Yet after hardening all aspects of the operating system (yes, this can even be done with Windows 8.1), I'm impressed. So impressed as a matter of fact that I fully intend on keeping it while working to figure out how to get Crunchbang 64bit installed despite Window8's Secure Boot mechanism.
P.S.-My apologies for any Members I may have annoyed several days ago.
The intent was not to do so.
My nature is to merely be aloof so to speak, per se.

Tried FreeBSD for fun in VM but I miss systemd so it's gone. Then I've tried ArchBSD for fun with OpenRC in VM but I was missing my pure Arch setup so it's gone.
Finally I've checked LFS but due to it's time consumption I gave up

I had no idea ArchBSD used OpenRC like gentoo and funtoo, always just assumed they used the old NetBSD style one that Arch previously had. That's very interesting.
Pack em in snow!

A distro I would've loved to try was Tinfoil Hat Linux It looks really functional & pretty interesting. Unfortunately, the project has been somewhere between Development Hell & abandoned, since 2002, but their website is still running, & the iso is still available for download (for floppy disks only) along with parts of the never-released version 2.0. It'd be pretty cool of someone revived the distro & brought it up to date, while keeping the original philosophy intact

The Illuminati are watching your computer, and you need to use morse code to blink out your PGP messages on the numlock key.
This made me chuckel.

Funny as it is, it also kicks ass against Van Eck Phreakers & keyloggers (both software & physical)
