Server maintenance

Tomorrow (2nd October, 2013), between the hours of 9am and 5pm GMT, I will be performing some maintenance and upgrades (doubling the RAM and drive storage) on the web server. I will try and keep any disruption to a minimum, but there will be some short periods of downtime when the forums will not be accessible. Apologies for any inconvenience.

@snowy:  LULz!

I noticed some connection errors one day a few weeks ago...something about SQL sockets.  Was this a memory problem, or did we really have so many users connected that the server couldn't handle them all, or was the server under a DoS attack?

Were it an attack of any nefarious intent worthy of mention, log files would have listed it as such accordingly.
More than likely it was a high number of Userland side connections whilst perusing the Community.
Rest assured, if it's an attack of nefarious intent, Corenominal would know the difference immediately. As indicated by "upgrading the Ram and storage" versus implementing security measures.

Corenominal is "upgrading the Ram and storage" with extreme prejudice...

LOLing...I'm always up for an intelligent conversation on the merits of the affirmative or negative of why this, or how that...

"...I will be performing some maintenance and upgrades (doubling the RAM and drive storage) on the web server." indicates more of a necessity or choice to upgrade to meet future needs versus "upgrading the Ram and storage with extreme prejudice" due to recent security issues.
And though I doubt the merit of your use of "with extreme prejudice" is meant to elicit the context of upgrading due to security issues very recently, surely I cannot be held at fault for the blatant disregard in which I'm opportunistically blithering unto my heart's content accordingly. tongue

Meanwhile, in related news: I shall shut up shutting up my digressing of the matters at hand.

Re: Server maintenance

The upgrades and maintenance on the main web server are complete. As far as I can tell, everything is working as it should be. If anyone does notice any issues, please let me know.

Tonight, I will be doing the same for the server that hosts the #! repositories. As with the main server, there will be short periods of time where the repos will not be accessible. Again, apologies for the inconvenience.
