Hmmm....., not sure if 'Animal' is as destructive as 'Sid', but I do like the 'ring' of '#! Animal'.
Linux since 1999
Currently: AntiX, & Crunchbang.

crunchbang with sid, systemd and slim - LinuxBBQ Darkside

...now wondering if "Derpian" might be better for Testing or Sid..."broken packages"... Staying within the Muppets universe, though, I like Animal for Sid. ]:D

#!Animal. Great name.
Btw, also checked out LinuxBBQ Darkside. Looking good. That will have to be my next install if anything needs replacing.

I haven't tried linuxBBQ Darkside yet. I'll have to take a look into it. I don't know about using systemd for me personally I just switched my main system and it caused more issues and didn't notice a speed increase actually seems my pc boots and shuts down slower...

By default it waits for a number of unnecessary services that can be done parallel. Your fstab also has to be perfect. I get 17 second boot to login on my netbook, non-optimized and loading a bunch of services. Analyze and journalctl are also very awesome additions.

I would like to see a #! Sid release...I've always thought Crunchbang was a silly name for a Debian Stable based distro, it would be more fitting for experimental IMHO.
Tried LinuxBBQ Darkside, and while it's a fine effort, it's lacking the wireless adapter firmware that #! contains, so gave me more trouble getting my wireless adapter working that I want to mess with.

Perhaps we could change our name to CoolBreeze GNU/Linux, then.

CoolBreeze works for me.
Given a choice between CoolBreeze (stable) or CrunchBang (Sid/Animal), I would choose Animal.
Offline
as mentioned in this thread, could it be possible to manipulate screenfetch to show that one is using #!Animal ??
-1 for CoolBreez (nice idea, but this sounds too ..., or such )

Just out of curiosity how do you set up an ISO-file for Live-USB (I guess its kinda like playing the violin, something that looks rather easy but is in fact horribly difficult). What should be on it?
Or perhaps more easily: What is #! Animal? Does BBQ Darkside count as #! Animal? Does my install with the sources switched to Sid count as #! Animal?

I`ve already hacked Screenfetch and my conky-config to name it Animal, so it`s really no need for a sid-based release. Just stick on sid forever, with your current install. It doesn`t get more Animal than that:)

newer versions of screenfetch read directly from lsb-release-crunchbang so you don't even have to edit any of the screenfetch code. (At least in screenfetch-dev 3.0.5, should be all versions after 2.7.7)
Mine shows
OS: CrunchBang "CrunchBang ANIMAL"
$ cat /etc/lsb-release-crunchbang
DISTRIB_ID=CrunchBang
DISTRIB_RELEASE=
DISTRIB_CODENAME=ANIMAL
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="CrunchBang ANIMAL"
$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Debian
Description: Debian GNU/Linux unstable (sid)
Release: unstable
Codename: sid

Your install counts if you want it to count. There is no Animal-release planned, the next release will be based on testing and will be called "Janice". Therfore we have to create our own Animal-install. Just bang the crap out of your current install, like a wild drummer would do, and sure, you can call it Animal:)

Well, but then you have edited lsb-release-crunchbang ... , so that just proves that there are always many ways to get the result you want to. But I`m using "Screenfetch-dev", and it doesn`t behave like you suggest, because the original lsb-release-crunchbang is as follows:
DISTRIB_ID=CrunchBang
DISTRIB_RELEASE=11
DISTRIB_CODENAME=waldorf
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="CrunchBang 11 waldorf"
But screenfetch-dev in it`s original state wants to write : "CrunchBang unstable sid", which it obviously doesn`t fetch from lsb-release-crunchbang...

@ew
I meant, not editing the screenfetch code. I'll edit and correct that.
As for the rest, I'm using screenfetch-dev as well. Version 3.0.5 from the git to be exact.
Below is the relevant bit of code
elif [[ "${distro_detect}" == "Debian" ]]; then
if [[ -f /etc/crunchbang-lsb-release || -f /etc/lsb-release-crunchbang ]]; then
distro="CrunchBang"
distro_release=$(awk -F'=' '/^DISTRIB_RELEASE=/ {print $2}' /etc/lsb-release-crunchbang)
distro_codename=$(awk -F'=' '/^DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=/ {print $2}' /etc/lsb-release-crunchbang)
else
distro="Debian"
fi
EDIT: The CHANGELOG mentions that there was a change to CrunchBang detection in 2.7.7. All subsequent versions should work if lsb-release-crunchbang or crunchbang-lsb-release are edited.
