We are using a small program for designing fonts at class at my uni. it is called GLYPHS and is avaible for Mac only. it is pretty nice. but I use linux and windows only on my laptop. so I am pretty much pushed out of productivity if I have to borrow a mac whenever I want to work on my stuff.
- any chance to use simple mac software on linux? (this one is basically a vector drawing program and can have background image layers of your scanned sketches, export fonts to standard formats and print)
- or any advice of which is a good linux program to draw fonts?
but I'd prefer to use what we use in class, though I am open for any suggestions..
any advice much appreciated.

You need a Mac or a Mac-emulator. What about FontForge in the debian-repository for free? Not tested.
