It is by caffeine alone that I set my mind in motion,
It is by the beans of Java that my thoughts acquire speed,
The hands acquire shakes,
The shakes become a warning,
It is by caffeine alone that I set my mind in motion.
I read all that on a bumper sticker - the vehicle was parked in the parking lot of a certain company famous for their production of TLAs (Three Letter Acronyms). For those who do not know, it is a parody of the Mentat Mantra from Dune.
But you know, I never drank coffee until I was in my 40's. Up until then then I loved the smell, loved the taste of all things coffee favored but did not care for the Real Thing. I think it was because I never had any Really Good Coffee. But I found myself working many long hours at the TLA factory and developed a taste for the rotgut that came from the vending machine thanks to a lot of sugar. Then I discovered better.
I would never turn middle-age without coffee - great for combating the decline in metabolism.
Now, as much as I love Kona, the downward spiral of my career has forced me to compromise but ya know, Folger's Columbian is not a bad brew. I microwave some water to just before boiling and do a drip brew. Now I am 60 and facing the family legacy of heart disease. my cardiologist wants me to quit. Yikes.
But I think his is a bit paranoid but I compromised. I mean, I had no heart attack, just an irregular heartbeat and hypertension and it is under control, so I indulge in a cup in the morning, just one. Okay, I started with 350 ml and have increased it to 500 ml but who wants to live forever? Certainly not without coffee. Isn't coffee proof that God loves us?
One of these days, I will grind some Kona and get a French press. It is good to have goals.
It is by caffeine alone that i set my mind in motion...

@SailorTears
+1 for quoting Dune. Always a favorite.
You'll find that using a French Press produces superior coffee. Constant, localized heat, from say, the hot-plate at the bottom of a drip-coffee-maker is usually the reason people dislike coffee.
As for the doctor's advice... my Dad points out that he's outlived two Family Doctors over the years who have told him to stop doing various things. "You could survive on a diet of bland oatmeal, I suppose, but what the hell's the point?"

Re. doctors' advice to quit coffee: It seems previous studies didn't control for all variables, and coffee and tobacco use went hand-in-hand back in the day. More recent studies, which have controlled for tobacco use, suggest coffee is good for cardiovascular health. (Heard it on NPR last week...)

I'm so bad at making good french press coffee for some reason. It either comes out weak or super bitter. I've managed some okay cups, but I'm starting to feel it's not worth the trouble. A week ago I made a good tasting cup, but it had too much particulate in it, so texture ruined it. I try different grinds (I have a burr grinder), different heat, different brew times - I just haven't found the right mix of things yet. I may keep trying.
My Bialetti on the other hand - I love it. I can make a good latte any time. That thing is hard to mess up. It's by far my favorite way to make coffee. My second favorite is the percolator my parents use.

Or... Or, bear with me...
I was just an asshole.
I read it as "It's so cool that #! has now] its own coffee thread."
Please. I beg you. Ban me for a (short) while. I deserve it.

Now you are on your honour here, if you cheat we'll never know unless you tell us!

You know that is way worse.
Three days without coffee it is.
IT BEGINS!
There is literally no real obstacle stopping me from drinking coffee... But somehow this is WORSE! I could just ignore this, and literally nobydo besides me would know, but....
DAMN YOU!
I SHALL DO IT!

You could have said, "No, I don't accept that, ban me instead" Of course I don't have the power to ban you so that would have been a self imposed thing too.
PS: Tea has caffeine in it and it's not coffee - I know poor substitute ... but in a pinch - Earl Gray is nice.

That is not an option. #!-forum is fair and just place. So, somebody says "you are banned*" (*Of course, they must have even some of that credibility you have) it means you are banned. You just know you have no business in here for a short while. (Because who whould say "you are banned" for no reason?!?)
I insulted the most friendly (linux) community in the internet. I deserve my punishment.

No, you made a questionable judgement about the coffee thread - you did not insult the #! community at all
Now, people do get time reduced for good behaviour.
Have you been good?
