Hi,
When I used to use Mint 11, I'm sure I was able to access an online teaching service called 'Blackboard'. But in Waldorf I am unable to.
I installed openjdk-6-jre, in the belief that might remedy the situation, but it hasn't.
I use this for teaching sessions I do in a University. So I really need it. I contacted Computer Services in the University, but they are uninterested in lending a hand in getting this working, and just suggested I used citrix to access a firefox or internet explorer browser. This seems like unnecessary complication to me.
Anyone have any idea how to get this working, simply? It's surely just got to be some java package or something.
Here is the Blackboard website, where it makes very clear that it does not support Linux. But that does not mean people on this clever forum can't get it working!
Any ideas!
Thanks

I think I know what you're talking about. I have to use the same service for my online high school.
Is it called Blackboard Collaborate?
I use Google Chrome to access the links to getting into the program. The file downloads itself to my computer. Then I have to click on the file and set it to open with Java. Firefox/Iceweasel works, too.
I've used Openjdk with success, but using Java 7 seems to be a lot faster and less buggy.
I used this page to install Java 7: click
Hope this helps :]

@idirae, good find. I have just rebuilt the 'oracle-java7-installer' package for use with #!. I am testing it now, but should have it uploaded to the repository soon.

Thanks idirae! I will have to look at that. It's the collaboration suite, as well as a load of stuff for putting up resources, etc., A real big awkward system.
I didn't note the blackboard website, which I said I would:

Strangely, it says that it doesn't work with java7!
Will have a go when I get back. Great work on the rebuild of oracle java corenominal!
When it's working, I'll tell computer services how it was done- as I did for printing through the university system, accessing the network drive, and so on (and then I will chuckle smuggly to myself).

Great work on the rebuild of oracle java corenominal!
I have only rebuilt the package for #!, I did not make any changes.
I have done some limited testing and it seems to work okay. Had a slight issue with Minecraft, but it was documented elsewhere, so not a big problem.

Cool.
Sure I didn't have oracle java on Mint though, and blackboard worked through that... But then...(that's mint...)

Even better fix- I never got round to installing the oracle java- but I did just update repositories and upgraded iceweasel to 15.10 or whatever the newest is. Now blackboard is working perfectly and I didn't actually do anything.
Always the best kind of solution...

Good stuff. I updated the Iceweasel packages at the same time as I uploaded the Java installer package. I am glad you have found it useful.
