After mild psychological trauma caused by Waldorf's twisted sense of humor my attention was drawn by corenominal to contributing to #! via github. See this post: http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=23228
cb-user-fortunes are the chosen project for contributing, but I thought a separate dedicated to the important task of compiling user generated adages/fortunes would be useful. corenominal's existing post (http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=19548) is dedicated to using cb-user-fortunes as a way of people learning how to use github. Have a look at that post to get an idea of the steps needing to be taken to contribute via github. Pretty simple really.
This post is dedicated to compiling the user generated adages that Waldorf can distribute back to us.
I have very quickly made some up, and added them to those already there by John raff, onms, and big boss man. Nothing too entertaining. This is a great chance to share thoughts, etc., with others. So many interesting things get said on these forums, and they should be remembered....perhaps.

I guess when there is enough that they can be exchanged for the existing general adages/fortunes that Waldorf has.

I haven't got my head around how to make cb-user-fortunes to come up as well as the default fortunes- not through notify anyway. So I just added them to the default fortunes file in /usr/share/games/fortunes
Now just waiting

This thread seems like a duplication of effort. Just add them to the github project.

The point of it is to draw attention to the possibility of doing so. I don't really think people actually go over and look at github. This thread is a prod, to draw attention to contributing to github cb-user-fortunes, rather than compiling them here.
Offline
Ok. Feel free to prod I seem to have misunderstood this part of the OP.
This post is dedicated to compiling the user generated adages that Waldorf can distribute back to us.

OK, point taken, I should make the OP clearer, but I don't think its really that much of a problem. I was just trying to draw attention to something that I thought #! users would enjoy. The thread has by now become useless anyway by introspection as to its own function.

Of course, another point of this thread could be that it would allow some discussion around the fortunes compiled. But you might as well delete it.

As long as the intent of the thread is now clear I see no reason not to have some fun with it. It just needs to be clear that members need to add the fortunes themselves to github. Unless of course there is a kind soul prepared to do it for them

Anyway, Dura, I liked your additions.
Agreed we really need lots more to make it a usable database.
