Hi, I've had this problem in the past but it has recently returned.
Basically, when I shutdown my computer it turns off and then turns back on to a black screen, where it says something about Intel PXE, and then Atheros PCIE ethernet controller, and then telling me to check cable connection and something else about PXE-MOd/Intel PXE Rom
I don't know what any of that means, but its as if it wants to network boot or something.
After all that comes up, Grub then appears and the machine starts normally.
This happened a few times today, until I eventually hard switched off at grub screen. I don't like using suspend because of bad experiences in the past.
The black screen it shows before grub:
Pretty annoying this really, and it would be great to get it fixed. Any ideas and help appreciated a lot!

Perhaps boot order in BIOS? It tries to boot from PXE first, then falls back to Hard Disk.

Thanks Xaos52. I will look into this. I still don't understand why it even tries to boot back up anyway, after being switched off...

Mine does that too - reboot after power off - I dont know why either.

At least I'm not alone. Thanks for the help. I will, slowly, learn a bit about BIOS setup and reply back.
Maybe they just love gnu/linux?

edit: just reading over it on the ibm website- kexec sounds great, and something #! users are probably interested more generally... ...bit beyond me at the mo though

@xaos52: how do you actually turn your machine off then, just hardswitch?

Is laptop-mode-tools installed? I know it has some weird function to tell the firmware to turn the computer on after shutting down.
Offline
Nope, that neither

I do not have any of those mentioned packages installed either.
I use power switch after the system came back with the GRUB menu.
It is not distro specific. I installed Arch and it does the same. (I still have it installed but I do not use it).
