I literally got tied up with RL stuff and will be for a time yet, even though some of it has slowed down.  For the next week or so there will be days that I disappear, don't sweat it. And you guys were going so fast and furious I could not keep up, but grabbed everything I saw links to in emails and saved them.  Now I don't know what to so with them.  DUH! Once things settled down (RL) to a slow boil, I started working on some different layouts of TeoBigusGeekus's scripts for weather. (Actually a request by a friend.) Still using v9000 by default though.

Sorry things have been so busy for you, but I think there is a saying somewhere that goes "Idleness is the root of mischief"

I want to see this "panel" working though mrpeachy, it's just dripping sexy!

That it is.. and all MrPeachy's work!! big_smile

You two make a super team!  You get each others creative juices flowing, then along comes MrBreak-it (that's me)!
If there's a bug or undocumented feature - I'll find it.  lol

Well, I don't write code, I can't and I have been known to beak thing just trying to run them  big_smile

As to Real Life grabbing hold, some is good, some not so good nothing is totally disastrous.

As for the panel, I'm going to re-ask my question that has not been answered yet in the "interactive conky" thread, because while the panel shows, it does nothing.  big_smile

By 'you two make a super team' I meant mrpeachy's scripts and your artwork.  It's wonderful to watch.  Like I said, I don't do scripts, I can't create stuff with GIMP like you.

Yea, MrBreak-It helped find some undocumented features in the v9000 script, and I made some suggestions.  I can 'sometimes' look at things and see the logic of the code and make minor adjustments.  But write something from a blank sheet to a finished product. Not going to happen.

Don't take to seriously my use of "MrBreak-It" [aka: Idleness is the root of mischief] - you obviously missed the ( lol ) after it.  I'm making fun of myself, I know my abilities are mainly conky layouts, the rest, LUA. bash, Perl, Python and artwork it all someone else. Way over my head.

{ thinking in type: 19:00 here, just got home and will be out all day again tomorrow.  What part of I'm retired and living a relaxed life doesn't my life understand. - sigh }

when you say it doesnt do anything...
are you getting the buttons change size when you mouse over them?

and then launch it in a terminal and click the buttons and you should see the "default" echo actions

its up to you to write in the commands for each button in the setup section

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

What are my options besides override, desktop and normal?
Desktop and normal they both blink..
and Override gives me

Conky: llua_do_call: function conky_main execution failed: /home/falldown/v9000/system_monitor/monitor.lua:620: attempt to perform arithmetic on global 'abstlx' (a nil value)

which doesn't make sense..

Does having dual monitors along with the driver install have something to do with it?

that means that xwininfo wasnt able to recognize the conky window, so couldn't return the geometry values
...there is also dock and panel... but i dont think either of those would be very helpful

i would be only guessing as to what the problem might be... compositing perhaps?

I understand what the error is saying (thanks to working with you), but why I get the error after changing the own_window_type is confusing.

Compositing is disabled since the nvidia driver install.

Sitting here watching the system monitor it is actually loading multiple instances of itself.. getting brighter and then starts over... and then starts over.

i assume this is because xwininfo gets its info from the window manager but when you use override:

"Override windows are not under the control of the window manager." from conky settings page

Compositing is disabled since the nvidia driver install.

Sitting here watching the system monitor it is actually loading multiple instances of itself.. getting brighter and then starts over... and then starts over.

that behaviour actually sounds familiar... but i cant remember the circumstances or the fix!

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

I am stumped!

Ok Peachy
Looking at Terminal I noticed (and overlooked earlier)

falldown@vaio:~$ conky_start
Conky: desktop window (121) is root window
Conky: window type - normal
Conky: drawing to created window (0x2000001)
Conky: failed to set up double buffer
Conky: drawing to single buffer

It's failing to set up double_buffer.

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

Searching google for the issue I found this..

A: More than likely you aren't loading the double buffer extension when Xorg starts. Luckily, its easy to fix. Open up the Xorg configuration file (usually /etc/X11/xorg.conf) with your favourite text editor, and find the line that says:

Section "Module"

Then, after that line, add:

Load "dbe"

BUT my xorg file doesn't have a  Section "Module" line..

it all started with barrybarrykelly introducing xdotool in his music control conky
then there was a gestation period while i was trying to work some stuff out in lua
then falldown got involved with making things look good
which got me interested in the artsy side of things

and voila

still havtn been able to implement clickability in a really accessible manner... there are so many variables, it is still really a custom process

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

Hi all, Thought I'd post up my conky for you all. As some of you may know, for the past week I've been building my system up from nothing, using Arch as a base. It's almost finished (well it's like a garden - it'll NEVER be 'finished'), so I thought I'd share it with you. I wanted to go for a pretty minimal, simplistic look: http://www.triplesix.co.uk/desktop4.png

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

Nice conky 2Karl!  Welcome to the forums.

Every now and then we see conkys displaying "Processes" and a list usually showing:

Name CPU% Mem%

or like 2Karl showed above:

Number of: xxx Running xx

I have never seen a conky - that I recall - that shows all the processes it's capable of - after all we have top, htop, and [sudo] powertop

sudo apt-get install powertop

if we want ... but all those conky commands going to waste.  So today, being "ANOTHER" one of those "In-n-Out" kind of days where nothing really serious could be done, I put this together during the "In" times:

Processes: aavkI9wu.jpg

# killall conky && conky -c ~/.conky_proCesses &

I am really getting tired of these "In-n-Out" days after two weeks ... I hope things settle down soon.  Have not been spending time learning (Glass Text, interactive conky, etc etc) but rather I've been spending "In" time doing things I know.  Weather conky (layouts) - the Teo way: here, here and here.

More complicated: multiple cities.

One conky, two scripts, 4 cities: 2 International and 2 in the US

And my last from: Weather·com  Gotta play with that some more.

I'm tired and need rest!

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

This is inspired by lowph's conky - with a few bits and pieces grabbed from here and there.
