So I have a really nice bootsplash which I would like to display when I shutdown. If I shutdown using gdm, it shows the splash screen. However, if I run
sudo shutdown -h now
the splash screen is covered by tty1.
Any help would be appreciated.

Did you ever fix this?
When I do "exit" "shutdown" it show tty1 and login prompt cmd line screen before it turns off.

There is no longer a splash screen included in Statler; therefore, you *should* see tty1 when shutting down unless you have installed something like usplash or Plymouth, or are using the February 2011 release which came with Plymouth.
