after more than a year, I upgraded my feb-2011 to feb-2012.. and even before I copied my old /home back over, I felt like start tweaking tint2 and conky and menu.. so all new now - yay - MUCH better.
I dont know if my system got "fat" over the last year from in/un/in/un/stalling lots of stuff, but I have the impression it is faster than the crunchbang I had 40 minutes ago. and all this aside from the fact that iceweasel is much faster than my google chrome was - on an old eee701 with 512 mb ram, that is.
I am glad I upgraded.. miss the flashing #! bootsplash, though.. it looked cool and I'd prefer it over the text... >> is there a way to have that old #! bootsplash?
cheers corenominal and #! forums!
ps. need to mention I have a newer #! on my new notebook, but this little old netbook just got seriously refreshed again. just did not want to upgrade it because everything was running niiice. like now. but now it's faster and I feel the difference. yay!

The bootsplash is Plymouth; I'm not sure if the #! Plymouth theme is still available though.
