[SOLVED]MoC player and WMA files

I have recently started using MoC and really love its simplicity and effectiveness. My problem is that it won't play WMA files. I usually use FLAC but some are in the former format and I 'd like to play them on MoC.
I have the w32 codecs installed and I have done a fresh reinstall of MoC.
Am I missing something?

No, you're not missing anything.  MoC doesn't like SHN files either.  I'm sure there is a utility similar to shntools that you can use to convert your WMA files to FLAC or OGG.

First though, are you sure your WMA files aren't locked with DRM?

Re: [SOLVED]MoC player and WMA files

The description for MoC in synaptic states as follows:

"Supported file formats are: MP3, OGG Vorbis, FLAC, WAVE, SPEEX, Musepack (MPC),
AIFF, AU, WMA (and other less popular formats supported by libsndfile)."

My wma files were ripped from cds and so shouldn't be locked with DRM. I can play them on Gnome MPlayer etc.

Puzzling at the least!!

...and both Full and Lite come with moc-ffmpeg-plugin, which is what's supposed to handle the WMA and other formats.  Is a puzzlement!

Re: [SOLVED]MoC player and WMA files

I know that a lot of linux players (VLC, MPlayer) have problems playing the latest and greatest in WMA, because it's a closed format. It's called WMA9 or something? Anyway, so perhaps you've ripped your files on a windows machine is the newest WMA codec? I'm just guessing here.

Re: [SOLVED]MoC player and WMA files

My WMAs are not recent ones, so unlikely to be WMA9 format. I already have the gstreamer (good, bad and the ugly) codecs installed. Gnome MPlayer, VLC and Rhythmbox all play WMAs on my machine; not Moc yet, unfortunately.
I converted some files from WMA to FLAC with Gnome Sound Convertor which comes installed on !#CB but they wouldn't play on MoC either. It just crashes!
WMA to OGG worked but the file output sounds distorted.
Back to the drawingboard! Rerip to FLAC I suppose.

Re: [SOLVED]MoC player and WMA files

Is wavpack a tool for WMA to OGG/FLAC encoding to be used in conjunction with Gnome Sound Convertor?
I have libwavpack1 installed by default, but not wavpack as you suggest.

Re: [SOLVED]MoC player and WMA files

I have solved the WMA playback problem by installing the updated MoC and moc-ffmpeg-plugin from the Ubuntu Lucid universe repository.
It works brilliantly now.

Re: [SOLVED]MoC player and WMA files

I have the same problem with MOC. WMA files get added to the playlist but it doesnt play and it skips to the next file. I have ffmpeg plugin installed and I have moc 2.5.0-alpha4.
