Re: Cb-fortune?

I just found it, forgot I had catfish to search for files roll

Now I have another question; Statler takes his quotes from three files (fortunes, literature and riddles)
I would like to have Statler say my own quotes, so I guess I'd have to place them in the fortunes file instead of the ones that are in there now. Would this work and would it be safe to delete the literature and riddles files?

Re: Cb-fortune?

Yeah, that would be safe. Just don't delete the file. Edit it instead. Perhaps make a backup if you want to go back to the original fortunes.
If you want Statler to only use your quotes, delete the contents of the other two files aswell. Just don't delete them.

Re: Cb-fortune?

That's what I tried, but Statler won't say anything upon running cb-fortune. It just shows "Statler says,"

I'll have another look at it and report back.

Re: Cb-fortune?

Can you go back to the original files? Does it work then? Then how about just changing a little bit and see what happens?

edit: OK you tried that while I was posting.

Re: Cb-fortune?

That's what I just did. When I place the original files back, it works as it should.
Instead of making my own fortunes file, I tried to edit it and replace the first quote in there with one of my own, but when I then run cb-fortune it gives me just "Statler says,".

Re: Cb-fortune?

I replaced all . with ! and this works. Why won't it use my own quotes then?

Re: Cb-fortune?

So gradually change more and more till you hit what it is it chokes on. (I'm running #!9.04 Ubuntu on this box so I can't try it out at this end just now.)

Re: Cb-fortune?

Lately (probable after a dist-upgrade) Statler is speechless at startup. On terminal I get an error about fortune not found. The problem is that /usr/games where fortune is populated is not in my $PATH.

Is there an official fix for that or should I simply add /usr/games on my $PATH? And why that has changed in the first place?

Re: Cb-fortune?

Not quite sure what you've done but, after than delete the quotes in the 2 folders, try placing some of your own quotes in each of them. It may be that the program chooses a quote from a folder at random; if they're empty, nothing will show 2/3rds of the time.

Re: Cb-fortune?

Somehow I missed Corenominal and Slaphish their replies, but thanks to zengrapefrit I now read it. Corenominal, I'll look into it and report back. Zengrapefruit, that's something I have already tried - but thanks for the suggestion.

I'll look into it when I have some more time

Re: Cb-fortune?

Hmm. Well Corenominal, I followed the steps given in the blog you posted here, but I'm still getting just a "Statler says," message. Could it be that you have made your own cb-fortune script? Maybe I have to edit that?

Did you create this file yourself?
