Guys,
I have seen somewhere in the posts here, that it is possible to boot all you file system to RAM.
This would be perfect for me, when I run my crunchbang installation from a USB sometimes I feel some delays, and then I would like to be able to use my USB as storage after I booted from it.
I followed this thread on Ubuntuforums:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=707230
which shhould tell you how to create a squashfs from your current file system (not the Live CD environment)
(that thread refers to the following wiki https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BootToRAM on how to customise a LiveCd)
Unfortunately something goes wrong and when booting my RAM session I get the following error:
/init: line 216 can't open /script/live
[4.035653] kernel panic not syncing: attempted top kill init!
is there anyone that also already tried this and could give mne a hand, I honestly have noi idea what the problem could be.
Thank you very much
M

Hi,
I know it took some time, but I now got a Crunchbang 9.04 Live USB with persistence and that boots to ram.
I basically followed the ubuntu live Cd customisation to add the toram capability:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BootToRAM
and then I added the persistence stealing some info from the following link:
http://rudd-o.com/en/linux-and-free-sof … -usb-drive
i can write a more step to step instruction or at least i can try, if someone is interested.
Thanks

Hello
Im interested in your procedure.
I d like to test it on #! 9.04.01 lite edition that I have installed on one partition.
All my datas are stored on another partition so the image souldn t be so big.
The only things I need to keep are parameters of Thunderbird or google chrome bookmarks stored in my /home.
It is certainly possible to replace usb path by the partition UUID no?
If I follow the procedure written in the WIKI https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BootToRAM , I need the CD at each boot no?
Thanks in advance
Best Regards and Happy new year!
