[SOLVED] No sound from usb video grabber

Hi,

Still using waldorf (and will continue for some time...)

I recently installed a USB2.0 video grabber on my laptop and can capture video (TV) using vlc with no problem - except there is no sound! And, yes, it does capture sound in good 'ole windows - which I don't want to use because the software does not allow predetermined times for recording.

I've tried various things but so far, no joy.

I know the capture device is recognised:
**** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices ****

card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC272X Analog [ALC272X Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: Controlle [USB 2.0 Video Capture Controlle], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

and I even created a file .asoundrc with the contents
pcm.!default {
      type hw
      card 1
      device 0
 }

alsamixer displays the volume control for the card but capture shows nothing at all.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: [SOLVED] No sound from usb video grabber

Quick update - this error message occurred when I restarted vlc:

Audio output failed:
The audio device "sysdefault:CARD=Controlle" could not be used:
No such file or directory.
