Can we replace evince and file-roller by GTK2 apps?

These GTK3 apps do not honour openbox actions defined in rc.xml (titlebar actions)

It should be possible to recompile file-roller with gtk2, but not sure how to do that (and google is of no help).

Re: Can we replace evince and file-roller by GTK2 apps?

Some people prefer Thunar, some PCManFM, some people prefer other file managers, but it's so easy to change. Even if you switch to PCManFM all the BunsenLabs menu items, keyboard shortcuts etc will still work.

File-roller could be replaced by xarchiver (I think it was once the default in #!), and evince has many possible replacements, but in general won't we be obliged to move to GTK3 eventually?

Re: Can we replace evince and file-roller by GTK2 apps?

In the future, Gtk3 apps will only be useable with a large dialling wand or rubber mitten. Any OpenBoxxy based system will not be able to rely on them indefinitely.

Re: Can we replace evince and file-roller by GTK2 apps?

...also xarchiver has no drag & drop functionality (and there's some UI clumsiness, imho).

i just installed engrampa - on archlinux it doesn't pull any mate dependencies, on debian only a few, not the whole DE - and i think i already like it much better that xarchiver.

and, as has been pointed out before, on pcmanfm there's no problem with menu integration.

Re: Can we replace evince and file-roller by GTK2 apps?

I did, it's excellent. The "Extract here..." menu item fails to give a preview, but other than that it looks good.

For 32 bit, the path is /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/thunar-archive-plugin/.

Awesome, bronto!!

Re: Can we replace evince and file-roller by GTK2 apps?

@hhh, so the behaviour is different than with xarchiver or file-roller?

Re: Can we replace evince and file-roller by GTK2 apps?

I think so. right-clicking>"Extract here..." on an archive opens file-roller and previews the contents, when I tested your code with engrampa the same menu item opened engrampa but gave me an error message about no suitable archiver found (I'm paraphrasing), so no preview. The other context menu items work correctly.

I'm sorry, wrong menu item. "Extract to..."
