how to install chromium v 40

Hi guys

I have 32 bit #! pointing at the Waldorf repo, when I go to update chromium, either via apt or the chrome website, it says v37 is the latest. I need to run chromedriver on it though those latest version requires chrome v 40.

What is the most straightforward & stable way of upgrading my system to allow a chrome v 40 install?

uname -a
Linux xxx 3.2.0-4-686-pae #1 SMP Debian 3.2.60-1+deb7u3 i686 GNU/Linux

Be excellent to each other!

Re: how to install chromium v 40

I now have google-chrome & google-chrome-stable in /usr/bin/ but it doesn't do anything when running google-chrome, just sitting there on the command line with no window popping open.

I ran the above commands after a purge of v37 chromium and it looked like v43 got installed:

$ sudo dpkg -i google-chrome-stable_current_i386.deb
dpkg: warning: downgrading google-chrome-stable from 43.0.2357.130-1 to 43.0.2357.124-1

$ sudo apt-get install -f

The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  chromium-inspector libspeechd2
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 153 not upgraded.

why is google-chrome not starting? There were no additions made to my /etc/apt/sources.list

@OP: Before you upgrade, post the output of:

apt-cache policy

Re: how to install chromium v 40

But why did you want to downgrade Chrome? looks like you had the latest version, and downgraded to a previous one. Maybe you haven't got the latest deb. Also, never use dpkg to install deb-packages. Unless you are 100% sure that all dependencies are met. Always use GDebi, as it solves dependencies for you.

The version I'm running is 43.0.2357.130..

I went through all the steps you guys listed above and rebooted. Chrome v43 is now running, thanks.

Re: how to install chromium v 40

Is there any reason I can't have both Chrome and Chromium on one machine?

Right now I have both Chrome and Firefox running in Crunchbang. But I would like to also have Chromium for more flexibility for me. I like to have one browser for most normal browsing. But I would like to put Chromium on to really tighten it down from a security and privacy standpoint in cases where I go to a web site where I want that.
