BunsenLabs bl-welcome script issues

EDIT (johnraff)
@userx-bw thank you for your bug report.
I have moved it to the Help & Support section.
-----------------------
Has anyone other then I, had a problem with the BunsenLabs HELLO Script in installing the multimedia keyring update download install them updates? when I do it with mine, everytime, as I did this more then once, it fails just before completeling -- with a funny error I didn't copy so I could paste it in here -- maybe next time I upgrade to BunsenLabs I'd better do that huh? neutral Nevertheless, anyone else had problems with this multimedia add on in the HELLO greeter script in term after a fresh install of BL besides me?

EDIT:

The steps I use when installing MultiMedia with keyring are, after adding the line to the sources.list are as follows

# aaddded sources
deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org wheezy main non-free # for #!

deb ftp://ftp.deb-multimedia.org jessie main non-free # for Jessie

apt-get update
apt-get install deb-multimedia-keyring #add keyring
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade # or dist-upgrade

If I am correct with that script it may skip a step -- it goes by pretty fast to tell --
though I have not thero-ly checked in to that as doing other things with BL -- have not stopped to look into it personlllllly yet --
Edit:

Just upgraded it again striaght from #! to BL -- When I use the HELLO script to add then update install MultiMedia this is what it does. Any Ideas as to why. It's not my script. hmm

the Last Image is showing how pbuilder is just hanging there "retrieving packages" -- just hanging there it been like that for a good 5 minutes now and still is while I am writing this

Re: BunsenLabs bl-welcome script issues

Thank you for this feedback.

The false error message issue is known and has already been fixed in other parts of the script. "Extracting templates from packages: 100%" is not an error, but for some reason apt sends it to STDERR so the script takes it as so. That string will be ignored in future versions of bunsen-welcome.

I don't use pbuilder, but the last time I installed it, it did take a very long time to build the environment. 5 minutes does not necessarily mean it is hanging.

Re: BunsenLabs bl-welcome script issues

Hi,

today, i installed bunsenlabs(-script) from github on my fresh&naked i386-Debian 8 and there is still an error regarding deb-multimedia -> something about "keyring not installable".
I re-ran cb bl-welcome script without any further problems, accepted unknown repository and now, everything works fine smile

Ps: i am really happy to see that someone is working on bunsenlabs {) , i was shocked to see that #! "died" sad

Update:

There was a problem during the update.

Re: BunsenLabs bl-welcome script issues

The bl-welcome script is calling for

http://www.deb-multimedia.org/pool/main/d/deb-multimedia-keyring/deb-multimedia-keyring_2014.2_all.deb

...but the current package is

http://www.deb-multimedia.org/pool/main/d/deb-multimedia-keyring/deb-multimedia-keyring_2015.6_all.deb

Good morning (in central europe) smile

Imho, it would be easier to change script by adding
1st) deb-multimedia as source in sources.list (or in sources.list.d)
2nd) do an "apt-get update" and
3rd) install it by requesting "apt-get -y install deb-multimedia-keyring"
instead of "wget whatever.too.old.date.deb" and installing by "dpkg -i whatever.correct.date.deb", because there is no need for updating script with new packagenames in future ?!

(just a thought to decrease problems in future, hope everyone knows what i want to be changed)

Re: BunsenLabs bl-welcome script issues

deb-multimedia is not an official Debian repository, but many of us wanted it included, so this method is a compromise ATM.

FYI I have raised the deb version problem as an issue on BunsenLabs github.

Okay, that is no problem (for me)

Thanks; I just wanted to suggest that calling "apt-get update && apt-get -y install deb-multimedia-keyring" is less work for "bl-welcome"-script then updating bl-welcome-script every time new version of deb-multimedia-keyring is released.

Re: BunsenLabs bl-welcome script issues

I'm sorry if this has already been ansswered but what should I do about this in the bl-welcome script?:

ADD MULTIMEDIA REPOSITORY
  -------------------------

The deb-multimedia repositories contain media-related packages that may be
newer than those in the Debian stable repositories, or not available at
all. On the other hand, packages from these repositories sometimes cause
problems for some users. If in doubt, you need not add them now - you can
  do it later if necessary.

  This will add the line:
      deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org jessie main non-free
  to /etc/apt/sources.list,
and upgrade your packages to the newer ones in that repository.

Re: BunsenLabs bl-welcome script issues

So I think this previous suggestion solved my problem.

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y install deb-multimedia-keyring

How do I restart the BL-script in order to make sure that everything was downloaded?

Say what?!

Something doesn't seem right.

It's an unofficial repository, just like deb-multimedia
https://wiki.debian.org/UnofficialRepositories

@OP: Try this:

gpg --recv-keys 65558117
gpg --export -a 65558117 | sudo apt-key add -
sudo apt-get update

I wouldn't touch that with a ten-foot pole even it it was your ten-foot pole.

And I thought I was too old to learn something new
Colour me younger than I thought!

Re: BunsenLabs bl-welcome script issues

Google makes a file in /etc/apt/sources.list.d when you install google-chrome. Mine (on Wheezy) has this entry:

deb http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable main

Yes it's unofficial so it comes down to whether you trust Google to add to your sources.list. Nothing to freak out about, though, IMHO.

@all I think these issues have mostly been fixed in the latest bunsen-welcome (0.07-6~git).
If you have installed via the netinstall script then please run

~/.bunsen-netinstall-logs/upgrade-bunsen-pkgs -u

to upgrade packages, then try bl-welcome again.
