Re: is my ram consumption normal?

that doesn't seem too much.
edit: does your firefox has a bunch of addons? disabling them could help you go lighter.
(I just opened firefox to see and it took ~150mb of ram - on a 32bit install)

$ free -m

Unused RAM is wasted RAM. The kernel takes care of using pages not directly used by applications for caching and buffering, for example for the file system.

Re: is my ram consumption normal?

That's not too much and is in fact less than I often see FF use.  Depending on the number of tabs open and addons you use, it can really skyrocket.

Re: is my ram consumption normal?

@saneks, IMO it's quite a lot for a no-DE setup, but looking at 'pstree' or 'htop' will show you what else is running in the background. The graphical browsers are resource hogs, for sure. If RAM is an issue (eg. if you only have 1GB RAM or less), send me a PM and I'll send you some info on how to strip off overhead (down to ~35MB RAM in X).
