... And if so: Who was his/her master? I am still struggling with basic c-stuff. Programming a whole OS by a single person is simply beyond my scope of imagination. Maybe, just MAYBE I want to create my own OS. Where do I start? I know, I have to master the dark magic of c/c++ first. But then? Is there any book or guide about OS-programming? Any recommendations?

One developer - "corenominal"! @corenominal on Twitter
Well he didn't code the OS, as it were, but there is quite a lot of scripting and configuration.

@Sessiolog: Why would you want to do this? I thought you couldn't speak Linux?
CrunchBang is over 99% Debian, with a few custom config files and a smattering of custom-built binaries (the latter most likely because corenominal felt the versions of those packages in Debian waldorf were too old).

Uhmm. yeah, right. I said MAYBE
Even though I am way too dumb to create my own OS I am still interested in the "how to do this?". Just to get a vague idea.

Here's a short list of the developers of the OS you're enjoying.
Tthere's thousands of people that alter configuration files to make "their own" distro. Some people simply master creating an environment that appeals to almost everyone.

Some of them do not exist in the current Debian Stable; i.e. viewnoir.

NOW that's funny. I had forgotten she even existed let alone ever thought she would rate her own Linux distro
