ooops, this should have gone into OffTopic-General Chat, That's where I thought I had posted!
I recently (like yesterday) took another look at Sublime. I had used it years ago but I really was impressed with it (ver3). Loved the multiple cursors. It does have a nag screen that crops up now and then but other than that it's free.
However I have just stumbled across Atom today which is free and looks and feels like sublime but with integrated git. There is also Brackets but what puts me off that is Adobe is involved with it and I think they tend to bloat out their apps like Dreamweaver etc.
came across this comparison of the 3
comparison
Seems the others have some maturing to do to catch Sublime

Obligatory pic in editor threads
Ahem. I'd go the extra mile to work with an actual editor -- emacs (or vim, if you must ).
My 2 cents O:)

I installed Fedora 20 yesterday on Mrs. HoaS' laptop and I was very pleased to note that although nano is not included (!), ed most certainly is -- great fun!
ed is the standard text editor!
All else is bloat...

Lol, thanks for the humor,
Vim and gvim is what I tend to use, just trying out other stuff. Having multiple cursors is fun you know!

I don't code so I use medit and nano.
@ Resident Bot
Which of these did you install:
Package gvim is a virtual package provided by:
vim-gtk 2:7.3.547-7
vim-gnome 2:7.3.547-7
vim-athena 2:7.3.547-7
You should explicitly select one to install.
I just discovered I had "gvim" at one time - I just installed vim-athena and fired up gvim - and there it was "nerd-tree" that I got so long ago I forgot about it.
Tad rough on my eyes - after all they are old!

I will look into this, thank you
Meanwhile, I'll just leave this here:
empty@Debian ~ % echo $EDITOR
ed
empty@Debian ~ % echo $VISUAL
ed
EDIT: Err...
empty@Debian ~ % edbrowse
no ssl certificate file specified; secure connections cannot be verified
edbrowse ready
What now?
Sorry OP, I'll stop now {)

Not sure on the SSL (though this site still doesn't use it :8 ), but otherwise:
http://eklhad.net/edbrowse/usersguide.html
I could make jokes on how my attempt (original LinuxBBQ challenge) ended up with more typos than letters, but it's actually well thought out (it was made for visually disabled users)
And I think ed fits the topic at hand quite well

Geany works fine for me. Can't say how well it does for coding, since I don't code.

hmm, just trying out sublime but sometimes the cpu goes close to 100%, vim is much lighter. Also I should have known there would be several packages to supply mulitiple cursor editing for vim.
I am trying out
vim-mulitple-cursors like sublimes

I don't code so I use medit and nano.
Medit is solid (for infidels ]:D ), but when I tried it, it always wanted to save my files twice. (similar to this bug)

Strange - I have never had that problem and I've been using medit for years maybe because I'm a Believer!

@Alad, yes I know Emacs is great, I used it before going to vim but it's an editor you have to leave open all the time (slow starting up) and I tend not to work like that.
@Unia, thanks, I think! now I am going to have to try Zed!
zed
Video on the page above. Impressed so far - looks a bit like Atom but much lighter and easy to install, in fact no install I just unpacked and ran from the folder, the file named zed.

^ Really? Starts instantly for me (unless I use ergoemacs, which I've found no liking to anyway). And there's also this:
