Re: boycott systemd

I just did a dist-upgrade but there is no sign of systemd anywhere. It will have to be a manual install sad

EDIT....a short time later....

Reinstalled systemd smile

Re: boycott systemd

I've been using systemd since before it was even forced upon arch users. My machine boots faster, and I can still start and stop processes and do all the things I could do before. The sky is not falling, and no one is stopping anyone from developing and/or using a different init system. So far my computer hasn't tried to kill me or anything, everything seems normal so far.....

Edit: Oh and after hating on it for the better part of a decade, I now use pulseaudio for anything that doesn't require JACK. It works fine for me now.

Re: boycott systemd

It is funny calling it being 'forced' upon people.
There is no difference between installing the standard of a system or the standard of a system, Especially
not when users have the freedom to develop alternatives. But nobody does that because it is a long,
hard, and difficult job. Computers are advancing far beyond the point of 20 years ago and so will the software.

Re: boycott systemd

I actually like my Debian system better since it accidentally installed systemd (when installing CUPS, I think) and then I purged it. Now, I can reboot or poweroff from my normal user account. I don't know how that happened, but it's nice.  smile

Re: boycott systemd

Re: boycott systemd

I remember reading somewhere that OpenBSD was looking at it, not as a replacement, but if a lot of applications begin adopting it as a dependency. They will have to do something to make those apps function correctly.
