Digit's Tiny Font Collection

as some of you will know already, i've gotten rather into making  my own bitmap fonts.

so much so that i now have plans for at least 3 collections of fonts.

but almost every time i settle down  to organise them  and get them  all neated up and bundled togetherr for publishing and sharing with  the world and a nice accessible sensible handy package, i instead end up making  more fonts...  so i should start to release a trickle somewhere with more staying power than a url to my server mentioned in some obscure treehut chan on irc.

so, i'll  get some released on  gnome-look in a trickle in a bit, but for now, forum threads are where it's at.  :)

so for now here's just  thhe latest  creation  that's got me so enthused...

rgl (and its tighter spaced alternative rgld) a font i'm really keen on, up there with my other fave tiny readable font, tidyr.

[edit](soon to be added to gnome-look, first individually, and later featuring in a collection) now available on gnome-look.org too: rgl & rgld [/edit]

i'll be back with more in time, but for now... there's a back catalogue of my other fonty creations available here: http://ks392457.kimsufi.com/stuff/fonts/ (take care, a couple in there arent mine)

also, you may remember this madness... http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=346942   ;D

Re: Digit's Tiny Font Collection

there are all very nice!
thanx for sharing.

my fonts are not nearly as utilitarian.

question,
what app do you use to create bitmap fonts? i an only familiar with fontforge. and is there a way to convert bitmap fonts to vectors? idk why, but i simply cannot get bitmap fonts to render correctly on my other (non-debian box). thanx.

Re: Digit's Tiny Font Collection

"scrots or it diidnt happen" said someone in irc when i mentioned my new latest font, binkki (and/or binkibu).  ^_^ ... er, or was it trd.  heh, i cant even keep track anymore.

xrt201407030320-thumb.png
i've got trd in my emacs as the default "face".  grgi still as the timestamps in erc (in emacs).  rgld in my urxvt xmonad-scratchpad (quake style drop-down terminal), and anything else around is just stuff i've either not configured in this os yet and/or is using some old old config not caught up to date with the rest of my theme... as if i'm in any state of anything plausible to catch up to... heh, it's all a bit chaotic at the moment.

i like that i'm always using my latest fonts, like that's testament to them improving ~~ or, maybe that's just a sign that i've become a self absorbed font magpie.  ^_^   for a while, all i used was "clean", or "progsole" (where it didnt go wonky), which were the two fonts that got me into bitmap fonts, and for maybe even longer, all i used was tidyr, which is still my fave ~ i think...  i've made twathree fonts just recently in the same size and format as tidyr that could be contenders to beat tidyr.

thnx to you too for sharing, xero.   smile
~ suggestions for a new thread title, please.  get everyone sharing.   ... or is there already a thread like that?

i use fontforge.  at time of writing i've yet to use it for anything other than bitmap fonts.  i've had difficulties withh  rendering my bitmap fonts in  other diistros since some version change in xorg i think.  such doom might come to debian yet, eep, i hope not.

~ok, i've waffled too much... this was supposed to be a quick punchy post to retort to the fella in irc with, just cos my "xrt" script not only takes a screenshot, but it also auto uploads, thumbnails, and puts the correct bbcode into my middle click, ready to paste.  ;D   wheee, i love nix.

Re: Digit's Tiny Font Collection

ok, finally got round to a (fairly) quick n dirty release of my fonts as a bundle.   ... ok, not quite as sloppily done as just linking to where i cp them to on my server.  .... i did at least gutt out /most/ of the crap (((i think there may be some duplicates left in the two or three fonts that come in multiple versions.

i havnt even counted them... been kinda prolific on the bitmap font creation.  ^_^

enough waffle, on with the link!

^ in a nice handy tar.xz

i did (and still do) have plans to release them in sensible grouped bundles.
