It's nice that this time around Lubuntu will be LTS for 3 years with Xubuntu.

Running it out of curiosity and I see in Ubuntu Software Center applications for sale T.T
You didn't know that Ubuntu has gone commercial and spies on you?

And of course not an acceptable subject for conversation on the "Ubuntu" media:

However saying that ... if you're online ... they have you.
So pick your poison

The apparition of apps for sale is probably due to Ubuntu Touch for smartphones (that will compete against Google Play Store & Apple Store)
EDIT: lol I forgot to mention against Blackberry market and Windows Store too but we barely hear about those 2 XD

There is nothing wrong with making money. This aspect of Ubuntu I have absolutely no problem with. Even Stallman says you can charge for software. It's the restrictions made on use/distribution that he objects to. He does object to the inclusion of non-free software in Ubuntu. Apparently if you run the vrms package on Ubuntu, the lights dim for a while. Also, if you hold the bash shell up to your ear you can hear the C.

I'm totally fine with the other versions of Ubuntu, just not very happy with the total bloat on Ubuntu and Kubuntu.

Especially when you feel it when running Ubuntu 14.04 in a VM with the maximum allowed resources you can allocate to it...

Here's what my Tanglu KDE uses on an old AMD64 3000+, Nepomuk et al included

Crunchbang uses about 2% CPU and 200 MB. But Chrome/Firefox use 1+ GB so that doesn't really matter.

As to slow VMs, that depends on how the guest OS plays with the VM. For example #! is unusable for me in VBox, but works fine in VMWare.

When running Arch, I checked out the arch_release file to see what it might contain. It was empty, logically enough. Not thinking much of it, I decided to put my own text and then completely forgot about it.
I had to laugh though when I installed Ubuntu 14.04 and was reminded by the installer of what I had written:

I added that to my ~/wwwpearls.txt file.
