Re: Volume increases when accessing Youtube ?

We assume that you are using Audacious a full volume, don't you? What music genre or from what period? It can make a big difference. Most of the music and sound in the youtube videos are badly limited to death leaving about no dynamic range at all. This why they sound so loud. The same happens with commercials. Usually when we watch TV movies and commercials break in they are often annoyingly loud in comparison. Movies are commonly mixed and edited at -20 dB FS while commercials target the max (0 dB FS) as much as possible. They pursue impact more than anything else. A very bad habit that is flooding our media within the last decades.

Or maybe something's simply wrong with your Audacity.  tongue

Re: Volume increases when accessing Youtube ?

What I mean is the music playing in Audacious increases in volume even with the youtube video paused. Once I leave the youtube page, the audio volume drops back down. Don't think it is 'ot to do with underlying volume of youtube videos or my music/music player, unless youtube does the same thing as commercial breaks on tv (plays louder! - this annoys me also!)

Strange. Not using Audacious lately. It was my to go music player but now I just use Moc. Never noticed that with Youtube and Audacious when I used it neither with Moc now. Anyone else noticed what Joe90 describes? Is youtube messing up with our sound servers?

Re: Volume increases when accessing Youtube ?

I used to use audacious and didn't notice this behavior but I'm curious about something. Are you watching Youtube by using Adobe Flash or the Youtube HTML5 player? I've had all sorts of issues with Adobe Flash and Youtube lately. I switched to the HTML5 player and haven't had any issues with crashing or just plain weird behavior. Here is the link:

Re: Volume increases when accessing Youtube ?

You might want to give the HTML5 player a try, I don't know if it will fix your issue but one less Adobe product in the mix couldn't hurt. You don't have to permanently use the HTML5 player either, you can disable it or clear your cookies and it goes away.

Glad to hear the HTML5 player fixed the issue. I wish Adobe hadn't given up on Linux until HTML5 took over everything but oh well.

I'm sorry holden but I haven't had this issue. Every time I've skipped forward on a video it just starts playing. I know that if you right click on a video there is an option to report issues to Google. This is beta software so I'm sure they would be glad to learn about any issues users are facing.
