Re: crunchy-dark-grey, a theme for Waldorf (updated for jessie/Janice)

I just wanted to say that I love this theme. It fits perfectly with crunchbang #!

Unfortunately, I've noticed today that my .xsession.errors file is overflowing with error messages. There are millions of messages like this:

"(geany: 5608): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_get_height: assertion 'GDK_IS_PIXBUF (pixbuf)' failed

(thunar: 2212): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_get_width: assertion 'GDK_IS_PIXBUF (pixbuf)' failed ... "

The GTK2 pixbuf libraries are all installed. I have no idea how to fix this. I'll see if I find a solution.

Nevertheless, one of the most beautiful dark themes. Thank you!

Check out this solution to a similar problem here

Try running the command
  gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders > /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gdk-pixbuf-2.0/2.10.0/loaders.cache
to make things work again for the time being

gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders is just a symlink to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gdk-pixbuf-2.0/gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders

I tried this and it seems to work, but only as root (?) - I was getting a "permission denied" message with sudo. It stopped the .xsession-errors, for the time being at least, but maybe someone can suggest a permanent fix?

Thanks for the tip! But clearly, a permanent solution would be good.

Re: crunchy-dark-grey, a theme for Waldorf (updated for jessie/Janice)

I can't get it to install! Yes, I've placed it in /usr/share/themes - but OBM > settings > User Interface Settings does not show this theme. What could be wrong?

EDIT: Fixed. For some reason the theme wasn't put into said menu by alfabethical order. It works.

Re: crunchy-dark-grey, a theme for Waldorf (updated for jessie/Janice)

^ For some reason, LXAppearance lists themes alphanumerically, but caps first, then lowercase.  I was confused about the order too, until I went looking for greybird and finally understood the actual sort order.

Re: crunchy-dark-grey, a theme for Waldorf (updated for jessie/Janice)

Sorry I've been absent, I've had a lot going on in my life. Thanks for all the compliments. I think this theme is working without error messages on jessie now, I'm about to download and test it. The warnings are benign anyway.

As an aside, I have no idea what's going on with gtk3 in jessie. I use Xfce and apps that are a part of GNOME, like gnome-system-monitor, ignore the WM theme while others, like transmission-gtk, render as expected. I'll post a screenshot in a bit.

Re: crunchy-dark-grey, a theme for Waldorf (updated for jessie/Janice)

I think this is due to client side decorations, which are new since GTK 3. ... 12? I can't really recall when the first applications started using it, it's so long ago ]:D

Re: crunchy-dark-grey, a theme for Waldorf (updated for jessie/Janice)

Lol, best of luck with the ladies!

I checked, in jessie this theme doesn't throw any errors for me, both gtk2 and gtk3. wOOt

But, gtk3 weirdness. crunchy-dark-grey with custom colors, showing xfce4-terminal (gtk2), gnome-mplayer (gtk3) and file-roller (gtk3)...

So not only do the gtk3 apps render differently, the apps using client side decorations don't change appearance whether they are active or inactive. Zuh? I don't get it and I don't like it. A different opinion can be found here...

Re: crunchy-dark-grey, a theme for Waldorf (updated for jessie/Janice)

Xfce users, I am using a slightly different gtk-2.0/gtkrc file that keeps the application switcher (Alt+Tab by default, I think) appearance consistent. Under style "xfwm-tabwin", change lines 591-594 to...

	bg[NORMAL]	= @bg_color
	bg[SELECTED]	= @selected_bg_color
	fg[NORMAL]	= @fg_color
	base[SELECTED]	= @base_color

I don't immediately see how they render differently, but the CSDs can be themed as well. I'm no good with theming, but I know Adwaita does it. Perhaps inspecting its source code will get you somewhere.

Re: crunchy-dark-grey, a theme for Waldorf (updated for jessie/Janice)

You don't see the difference? Well, in those scrots, gnome-mplayer (also, on my box, transmission-gtk, easytag, meld and system-config-printer) honor my WM theme, while file-roller (also evince, gnome-font-viewer and gnome-system-monitor) remove the WM theme, round the top corners and add min/max/close buttons which I've disabled in the WM theme.

Even weirder, it seems to me, is that when file-roller is extracting or creating an archive, the window that appears showing progress DOES use the WM theme! And look at gnome-mplayer's "Open" file/folder window...

Yuck.

Thanks for the link, Unia, but that's frustrating to me too. Look here...
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gtk+/tree/ … ta/gtk.css

There's that @import url line which I complained about in that other thread. Ok, so open gtk-contained.css...
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gtk+/tree/ … tained.css

Huh? 4700 lines of css?

Re: crunchy-dark-grey, a theme for Waldorf (updated for jessie/Janice)

I've been following this with interest, because I based the IcyBlack theme on crunchy-dark-grey. I just d/l'd the theme again (from the link in Post #1), which I assume is the default - and there is a big difference between gtk2 and gtk3 apps. Evince uses its own titlebar as you say, and even has rounded top corners (I don't recall ordering that, waiter!)

Hey damo! Sorry that in my absence I hadn't noticed your theme. Thanks for the credit on your DeviantArt page and in the themes gtkrc files, it's appreciated.

The scrot you posted is very weird, it's like a combo of our 2 themes. And what's up with the outlined buttons in Transmission and Evince? That must be from IcyBlack. Is that intentional?

Re: crunchy-dark-grey, a theme for Waldorf (updated for jessie/Janice)

A few options to disable CSD:

1. https://github.com/PCMan/gtk3-nocsd
2. http://tnsp.org/~ccr/gtk3/

First is easy to install but completely broken. Second requires to rebuild gtk3 - you can use my nurse script for that.

Other weird stuff is because I assume the theme wasn't updated for GTK 3.14. GTK3 themes break completely on every release.
