Re: Wun Weather Script for Conky (Lua)

i was looking through the usno site regarding sun/moon data and saw this in the motes:

Daylight Time

Daylight time is implemented only for U.S. cities or towns (Form A) and only for years 1967 and later, in accordance with the Uniform Time Act of 1966 and subsequent legislation. Daylight time is not used for places currently exempt from it.

the script gathers the data from form B on this site:
http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneDay.php
this could be a potential drawback for those of us who have daylight savings time
during dst, there will be an hour added to those times

what would be a reliable method for detecting dst for a given location?
one of the wunderground options is

now.local_tz_offset

this is one of the data points that is being sent to the usno site to generate the data
i can only assume when locations change to dst that number will change accordingly

mine should change from -0600 to -0500...  but no way to test it until the time comes!

OOPS!  after further investigation of the usno site it seems that wun is entering the data into the form incorrectly
update to fix that soon!!

Thank you sir.
I've had some pretty amazing scripts to work with.
Here's a scrot of the last interactive script I had working, v9000i (luckily I hadn't emptied my trash).
The alert icon is the only thing that didn't show up but the button opened the link in iceweasel.
v9000i_tmb.jpg
The new interactive script didn't work either. sad
I just changed what I had to for things to run when I set it up.
However I am looking forward to playing with the new icon options.
Thanks for all your help and the fantastic scripts, you are Da-Man! cool

Re: Wun Weather Script for Conky (Lua)

MrPeachy, your wondrous abilities with LUA are astounding to say the least.  Falldown, you creativeness with the Gimp stuns me as well.  Miss you and those skills at VSIDO!
I have to say the new wun weather script works perfect for me and with no issues at all.  (least none that I've noticed!)
You guys tend to make light of your abilities, but for me I find them an extraordinary talent on both your parts.  With all you do, and give to the community, I just wanted to say Thank-You!  Probably from the looks of things, Sector11 had some part in the template involved, and kudos to him as well.  It is the most awesome weather script I've seen yet!
Thanks again to all of you...

Re: Wun Weather Script for Conky (Lua)

Any news on what may be causing the blanking in the iweather.lua?

I've noticed that when my system is inactive, that it blanks, but I haven't stared at it long and hard to say that is "Gospel". Just something I've thought peculiar.

My screensaver is your regular xscreenaver 5.15 with power saving mode(s) set to blank after 2m and all Power Options are the same 2m interval|settiing.

xdotool version 2.20110530.1

on Slackware14_64bit with Multi-lib support.

When it goes wonky, I just issue a

killall -HUP conky

and everything comes back.

Great Job and Nice Work.

@Habitual
Have you tried the updated version from the first post?
I'm still having issues with iweather.lua but it fixed the blanking issues I was having with wun_template.lua.

Re: Wun Weather Script for Conky (Lua)

OK. extracted iweather.lua into current ~/wun directory and restarted.

Here's what I see right away with "DAYS MORE"...

11am 12pm 1pm 2pm 3pm
4am 5pm 6pm 7pm 8pm

with "DAYS LESS"...

9pm 10pm 11pm 12am 1am
2pm 3pm 4pm 5am 6am

HOURS seems to be correct.
I'm hoping it's just a mis-placed entry or a typo wink
Thoughts?

Are you running the new wun.lua, wun_config.lua & button_script.lua also?

Well, I am "now" smile

"DAYS MORE"... is fixed.
"DAYS LESS"... still shows:

3pm 4pm 5am 6am 7am

Joe Thank you sir.

Peachy I have a hiccup with the text wrap this morning..

Conky: llua_do_call: function conky_weather execution failed: /home/falldown/wun/wun.lua:229: attempt to index field '?' (a nil value)

Which is this..

text_forecast[i].period		=weather.forecast.txt_forecast.forecastday[i].period

Right now I am checking to see if I messed up some script   big_smile

Re: Wun Weather Script for Conky (Lua)

and here i was expecting things to be MORE stable from using an api  roll   roll   roll  *eyes roll out of head*

fixed for 7 day data
as mentioned in the first post
if your template is calling data for days beyond 7 it will break

ill wait and see if this change is permanent before trying to compensate for fewer days than expected

I need to learn to type faster so I can get a working copy of something before the next update/bug fix.

Would be fine if I was in the US - change 'mcdowall' to 'sector11', change a zip code and run it ...

... but I'm not!

no, if 7 days for weather then 7 days for moon right now
as im using the date generated from the api for following days to send to the USNO form
however it would be quite easy i expect to write some code that calculates future day dates so if weather is going to be 7 from now on, sun and moon could still be 10 in the future

out of interest, what do you have to do to get the updated archives up and running?  anything i could change to make it easier?

i dont plan on changing the config unless i think it is really important, so you can copy your config to somewhere else, then paste it into the new wun folder and overwrite what is there

I'm getting n/a for highs and lows on hourly forecast... but I think that I was getting that yesterday as well.

@falldown
NA's are part of the data from wunderground
and it seems number of hours has not been changed, still 36

for days, you get 7
for those long text forecasts "text_forecast[1].fctext"
you get 14

Well, I was just about to post that I'm out of the race.

I grabbed the latest: UPDATE AND FIX 01/08/14 @13:36 - did what changes I "needed" to do  ... and of course errors ..

The interactive conky - isn't interactive - have not tried the static version yet.

I have no idea how to edit the template to get it working ... I haven't had a fully "converted" WUN running since the very early versions.

Seems like I no sooner change the things that MUST be changed in the four files, wun.lua, wun_config.lua, wun_template.lua & iweather.lua, and I start converting to metric and international conventions when --->  it's update or bug fix and I have to start all over again.

So I'll just wait a while until the dust settles.  Please release the columns repeat thing if you think it's worth it.

yes, you are right!

@sector11 , i completely understand!
i was just thinking that i had everything going pretty smoothly last night, then started it up today and BREAKAGE!!

to save you some headaches it is only the main wun.lua that is changing recently

any template mods, changing data to metric for example will not be affected
you can save your modded templates in another location then if you try a new archive, copy them back and overwrite what is there
