I only have 471MiB RAM sad plus due to other commitments I just won't have the time to build an image properly, sadly...

Re: CrunchBuntu Wiggle Puppy

As soon as the 32-bit downloads, I'll use that for starters, since this is going to be designed for netbooks right?

Re: CrunchBuntu Wiggle Puppy

Well, if in doubt, think "CrunchBang". I suppose 32-bit or 64-bit is ok at this stage. I am having a go on a 64-bit, just so I can understand better what this really entails.

There's no rush - as long as we maintain a forward momentum, we will get there in the end. And I appreciate that we are discussing this at the start of the working week and that people have other commitments wink

I don't understand the point of this... At all.  I swear I'm not trolling but what is the goals of this project and how is that different than #! ?

That's a good question, I'd be curious about this myself.

^^

It's ok. I'm not trolling either.

It's not meant to be different. That's the point. It just comes as a response to some feedback from users that some of them want more recent software.

Re: CrunchBuntu Wiggle Puppy

Anyhow, it's important to make more Ubuntu-based distributions because it annoys the hell out of Canonical. They say they don't mind but anecdotal evidence suggests otherwise.

^ Always good to get under Canonical's skin. ]:D

@coffee_guy:  I think that, to fully understand why these guys are interested in doing this, we first need to understand "Why does Rice play Texas?"  It isn't enough just to understand the historical context of that quote, either; there's a deeper truth to the "why".

Re: CrunchBuntu Wiggle Puppy

This project will keep the best bits of Ubuntu while giving the Crunch look and feel, I guess. Plus doing something like this is good Linux experience smile

A little "proof of concept" for you.

2014_01_14_075707_1280x1024_scrot.jpg

I don't like compositing, so I'm not even going to try to make it work, and there's no way I will try to remaster it, but it mostly works. I just used machinebacon's instructions on a raring base (because I already had a raring netinstall) with some modifications from statler to waldorf.

Re: CrunchBuntu Wiggle Puppy

Even if it is, I'm still going for it. the ubuntu 13.10 mini ISO is just giving me some major problems, so I'll probably just use the 12.04

@porkpiehat:  After a brief flurry of activity, the interested parties have taken a few days off of this project.  Maybe filling out a death certificate would be a little...premature?

Re: CrunchBuntu Wiggle Puppy

Just so everyone knows: This was a serious project but professional/personal things got in the way and this had to take a back seat.

However, originally I did say that I would pay for hosting etc. So as long as I don't have to do anything imaginative/time-consuming, I'm happy to still contribute.

Re: CrunchBuntu Wiggle Puppy

@CSCoder4ever: Are you still building an image using 13.10/12.04? Going for the 14.04 when it arrives? I tried experimenting myself with the mini iso (of 13.10, I think) but it somehow got very very messed up when I tried to install X/Openbox/Slim and stuff sad
