I think of two alternate ways to do something similiar:

1. Set duckduckgo as Firefox's default search for the address bar (look for keyword.URL in about:config). Then you can use its bang syntax.

2. Use shortmarks.com. You can setup custom keyword searches. Again, just edit keyword.URL.

Also the benefit of these two methods is they work in any browser that lets you change the search engine.

You can always use the !g bang to search Google. If however you really don't like Duckduckgo's results at all, using the Shortmarks.com method may be better.

As to addon, I use Firebug.
By now, as to meta search engine, I use Googlebye.com only .  I will tyr Duckduckgo later.

Try using startpage.com, it uses google search with ixquick privacy

All the time.

I don't mind ctrl-Q in other applications; it's just browser placement of the ctrl-W and Q being right next to each other is more of a nuance than anything. Also, age-relted hand-eye coordination deterioration is a contributing factor for my once-per-install rage.

Personally, I think a lot of the mozilla shortcuts should be reconsidered for remapping.

ABP, Ghostery, Greasemonkey, and NoScript. DuckDuckGo set as the default search engine. VLC Web Plugin. Userscripts are SuperdAmn, dAmn.ws and dAmn Autojoin for the deviantART chatrooms, and Viewtube for YT.

Self-Destructing Cookies is nice if you're paranoid, but it doesn't work in Iceweasel 20. I'm using it in Aurora 25.
