I use vlc to play both music and video mostly because It was the default mediaplayer in crunchbang. Now I want to try out ncmpcpp for audio files.. just because I like the look of it..!!
I hope it taste as good as it looks

Does e-radio have a .pls file? If yes, you can use mpg123.

I've started using Quod Libet for music playing - it manages all my music well enough, has a nice, simple interface, and some really good extensions.

Rythmbox has been the source of some grief for some time now so the information in this thread has been most welcome.
Based on the votes here I have tried mocp (good for stuff on HD) and Quodlibet. The latter is of interest as I do listen a lot to posdcasts. That works fine but most of the posdcasts are efemeral in nature (news, etc) so I want to purge them from the list once I have listened to them. I can't figure out how to do this in Quodlibet and (of less concern right now) I have not been able to figure out where Quodlibet keeps the audio files.
The Quodlibet manual doesn't help me much and I start to suspect I don't understand the use paradigm.
Any enlightenment is greatfully accepted.

I've been using VlC for video and Audacious for audio files for so long and across so many linux installations I lost count ages ago.
Just never found the need to use anything else.

I use mplayer2 for video and alsaplayer for audio but after a daring upgrade to unstable, alsaplayer crashes when I hit play. I haven't done any troubleshooting yet.

[ corenominal mccoder has created a masterpiece. this is a linux distro. all craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. it is crafted of scripts. it menaces with spikes of code. it menaces with spikes of theming. it depicts an image of a crunch. it depicts an image of a bang. the crunch is crunching. the bang is banging. ]

vlc-video and aqualung-audio. Aqualung not playing all of the popular music formats, so for that reason i have Amarok (Hello from Mandriva 2008).

On Slitaz, I've begun to use Consonance. Pretty much a good time. Pretty much a time worth having.

i usually stick to vlc as the end all be all player.
but i also like audacious (audio) but do not feel like having apt install the needed packages.
~ When jessie hits stable you could upgrade crunchbang and keep it alive a bit longer.
