So, I have given my old computer to my Mom, who is as slow with technology as it gets. She's been using Windows for a few weeks, but lately it has been getting slow so I decided to fix her a simple-to-use, beautiful Crunchbang Granny Edition. This is a standard install of #! with autologin, Docky instead of tint2, a translated Iceweasel, translated exit script, PySol for her solitaire fix, and skype.
The wallpaper is my new discovery: a live view of Herzogstand from the excellent http://www.foto-webcam.eu ; updated every 15 minutes via feh and crontab. She's quite happy with her new system. And I know that I can leave her to her own devices and she won't be able to mess the system up unless she tries very hard

So this isn't crunchbang but I kinda wanted to post it anyway to prove a sort of point. This is Mint Xfce (the reason for using it is because my laptop like it and it works the best on it (correction: the best in the hands of someone with my very moderate skill set) - I think I can squeeze in LinuxBBQ Darkside on it but that is one huuuuge project to get everything working tickety-bo and I just don't seem to find the time... anywayanywayanyway. My POINT is that #! keeps being the beacon towards which I pick the way everything looks from now on.
I've removed the Xfce-panel, Xhost and a buttload of more stuff to make Xfce more snappy then I added a tint2 and tried to keep everything as clean as possible. I spent a few hours picking out shortcuts to the applicationfinders and stuff like that that I liked. I kinda went with "what is it with #! that I loved the most" and tried to stay with that.
So even if it isn't #! I thought I should post it anyway. Hats off for the design choices made by Corenomical and the gang
What's the name of the icons?

Crunchbang Granny Edition
Hehe, that is an excellent name! It's amazing how user-friendly you can make window managers that were initially meant for power users

@ ew --> RE ohyran

Yes, but the Mint XFCE ISO is app. 1 GB, so if he was able to install that, there would be no need to squeeze in anything, because both bbq-darkside and CB are smaller in size, and they are lighter and run better on old hardware, so I still doesn`t understand it:)

I'm not quite hardcore enough to be comfortable with tiling window managers, though every once in a while I muck around with Xmonad, i3, et al when I feel like procrastinating. Since I'm on a laptop, I tend to just maximize every window, so I modified my Openbox rc.xml to do that automatically. However, I also modded my config to avoid maximizing dialogs, splash screens, and preferences windows. I also stripped out window titles on maximized windows.
I've also swapped terminator for rxvt-unicode, and have gotten into tmux. I also rediscovered Cmus after trying MoC. I've got to finish copying my music off my backup drive; none of what I've got here is getting me into the groove tonight.
