OSCON 2013 ...coming up

OSCON 2013 is 22-26 July in Portland, OR.
It is one of the largest annual open-source focused conventions.

CrunchBang won't have an 'official' presence there, but should any crunchbangers be planning to attend, perhaps we could arrange a meet-up?

I will be at OSCON 23-24 July. The expo hall opens at 5PM on the 23rd, and the pass is $25 USD for the entire week.
That same day, Puppet Labs is holding an open-house event (free) at their new headquarters from 8:00 PM to 11:30 PM which I plan on attending: PuppetLabs-event-registry. If you're interested in DevOps ( like I am big_smile ) it could be fun!

I love that OSCON is usually held in Portland, just 45 minutes up the road from me.

Are you sure that lcafiero will not be there representing CrunchBang?

At LinuxFest Northwest he said he'd be at OSCON, but without an 'official table.' Apparently, table space for non-profit organisations is rather limited at OSCON.

Re: OSCON 2013 ...coming up

Hi, all --

First, xoraxiom is right -- OSCON is probably the biggest Open Source conference in the U.S., and no, we won't have a table there like we did at Linux Fest Northwest. There's a long and short reason for this: The short one is only a few "dot-orgs" get booth space in what has become a largely corporate event (unlike SCALE or LFNW, which are community-run). But we're not alone, because invariably bigger Linux fish like Fedora, Ubuntu and OpenSUSE often get shut out as well.

I was planning to go this year to OSCON as merely an attendee, for a change, but as it turns out I won't be able to make it this year.

Meet up: If you can have a meetup at OSCON, that would be great. xoraxiom -- would you care to carry the ball on organizing this?

While on the topic, I wanted to let anyone know if they have the initiative to help promote #! at an event near them, PM me and I can help with some of the details. I have a lot of experience in this, and represented Fedora for years at shows around the western U.S.

Also, I'd like to thank xoraxiom for the fantastic work in pitching in to help at Linux Fest Northwest in the #! booth. I hope he can shed some light about how easy it is (and I'll see you next year in Bellingham) big_smile
