Re: Things I did after I installed #! on an Asus UX21A

I have the UX31A and mapped my F3 and F4 keys to this script.

################################
# keyboard brightness decrease
################################
#!/bin/bash
brightness_val=$(cat /sys/class/leds/asus::kbd_backlight/brightness)
if [ 0 -lt $brightness_val ]
  then
    brightness_val=$(($brightness_val - 1))
    echo $brightness_val | tee /sys/class/leds/asus::kbd_backlight/brightness
fi
################################
# keyboard brightness increase
################################
#!/bin/bash
brightness_val=$(cat /sys/class/leds/asus::kbd_backlight/brightness)
if [ 3 -gt $brightness_val ]
  then
    brightness_val=$(($brightness_val + 1))
    echo $brightness_val | tee /sys/class/leds/asus::kbd_backlight/brightness
fi

I removed laptop-mode-tools and installed the TLP scripts. I get about ~4 hours per charge with 80% brightness. PS: the SD draws alot of juice. I disabled it because I hardly use it.

That script is as well in the Ubuntu documentation.
However my keyboard is for some reason completely dark. Doesn't really matter though I don't want to use the back light anyway.

What are the advantages of TLP over laptop-mode?

Re: Things I did after I installed #! on an Asus UX21A

I prefer the TLP because it automatically toggles Powertop's recommendations for me according to power source. I was never able to do so with laptop-mode-tools. I prefer it because it essentially replaced laptop-mode-tools and Jupiter applet all together. Plus, its configs are well laid out and documented in a single file.

I do not have any exact wattage consumption numbers from Powertop for comparison. But I do feel as if the battery life has improved by atleast 30 minutes.

I guess I have to give it a try. My battery life is already quite good though. 4-5h with my normal usage.

Do you mind suring you touchpad settings? I was never able to get my to feel just right.

About your backlight, map the keys using the above scripts. Then run XEV to see if it recognizes the F3 ad F4 keys. It should work then.

I didn't change anything at all when it comes to the touchpad.
Btw does someone know a way to disable it? Would be handy sometimes.
